You know, I'm not much for reality shows. I'll admit I'm looking forward to "The Amazing Race: All Stars" and that's about it.
But I also have to admit that I was in no prepared for how much I would love this show, "Armed and Famous". It's so utterly ridiculous, that it makes The Surreal Life look like someone set a camera up in your mom's basement and makes "Cops" look like a reality show about the Post Office.
For those of you who haven't seen the show or the previews it's basically this. Five celebrities from various forms of the entertainment industry are put through three weeks of intensive Police Academy Training. Then they give them a gun and a badge and swear them in as official Muncie, Indiana Police Officers.
And on this, I'm not joking. They are genuine police officers. It's not an act or a show. They really trained these people, partnered them up with seasoned patrolmen and sent them out on the streets of Muncie.
Now, I know what your probably thinking if you haven't seen the commercials for the show. "So what?" Can't celebrities be policemen, too? I'm sure that's what I might say. Thing is, these aren't necessarily the people you'd really think to or even want armed and walking the streets of your city. Let's review, shall we?
Erick Estrada
Most people would remember him from the '70s to '80s series "Chips". He's also known internationally for a number of Telenovelas like "Dos Mujeres, Un Camino". Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Officer Poncherello.
Jason "Wee man" Acuña
I didn't know this guy was a professional Skateboarder. But most people would probably know this guy from the "Jackass" series and movies. Did I mention he's barely over 4'8?
La Toya Jackson
Um, if you don't know who this is, then never mind the whole thing.
Trish Stratus
This chic you might remember from a ton a fitness mags (don't lie, you know you own a couple, and not for health reasons, either) and as a former WWF Wrestling Champion. Aside from the fact that she's a total babe, she's the only one out of the group who took the taser hit in same way a suspect would. With the fishhooks in her skin.
And last but not least,
Jack Osbourn
You might not recognize Jack without his Mohawk, glasses or severe drug addiction. But it's none other then Ozzy Osbourn's son, Jack. The best and most experienced shot in the gang.
What's so incredibly surprising about this show, is that's not the train wreck I thought it would be. This is the GREATEST reality show I've ever seen. It's unbelievable. The first thing I thought when I saw this show was that this was very, very bad idea. But so far, (we're only on episode 2) these guys are doing very well. There actually very well trained, in spite of their oddball personalities.
So far, Estrada has arrested a guy for spousal abuse, Latoya helped pin down a 300 lbs behemoth with a warrant for his arrest, and Jack held down the backdoor to a house while his partner smoked out a murder suspect.
I'm telling ya, this show is soooo entertaining it's unreal. I would have never imagined La Toya Jackson (who tried jamming a 1 dollar bill into 75 cent coin slot) doing these things she's never done. If I hadn't seen it myself I wouldn't believe it.
