I don't talk a lot about my musical preferences here on CoG, mainly because not a lot of CoGgers share my musical interests. Card Gamers tend to lean towards more alternative style music, barring the occasional hip hop artist. But recently I discovered this young woman named Corinne Bailey Rae, and found myself moved by her music in ways that I had not been since I was a teenager. In this day and age where singers and songwriters like to focus on everything bad and selfish about love, here was a songwriter that celebrated all the good things about it, and lamented, not exploited, the sadder aspects. This is very much the same way that music used to do prior to the mid-1990s, but she did so with a fresh and gentle voice that I had never heard before.
For that trivial, yet somehow still emotional connection that a favored and admired musician makes with their fans, I'm posting this thread as a sort of a tribute to Corrine at this terrible time in her life. I don't think it will accomplish much of anything in the long run. But it's just something I felt compelled to do. As a human being, I can't imagine what I would do were I in a similar position. But I can imagine that the only way I could hold on, the only way I could go on, is if the people that I have connections to, however small or trivial those connections may be, kept me afloat with whatever small contribution of sincerity and compassion they could give. This is my small contribution. To share with you some of that music, and maybe you'll form a little connection of your own. I hope you enjoy.
