exile vs TT

thx for the quick reply chaosruler.

so if as long as theres a summon, torrotial tribute can be activate, is that right?

coz' i was reading the thread about gardian sphinx, and i came up with such a senerio.

player 1 summon GS
Player 2 activate TT
player 1: "u didnt ask if I want to activate his effect. I have priority to use his effect first, and I will activate his effect and put him in face down def position."

now my question is, does TT's effect go through?

player 1 is wrong, when GS' "flip" effect activates, he loses priority, because spell speed 1 effects cannot be chained to one another. Player 2 has the first opportunity to respond, via TT in this case. Also, as long as the summoning is NOT in the middle of a chain, then TT can be activated, or when Jinzo, Creeping Doom Manta, etc. are summoned.

Chaosruler is correct. The priority here lies in the effect of returning a monster to the owner's hand not in the effect that allows you to flip it face down. That's a secondary effect and, as Chaosruler stated, a Spell Speed 1.

I meant if player 1 summoned GS with a tribute summon. like he was meant to summon it and attack with it, then set it face down. but since player2 activated TT without asking if player1 would like to activate anything first, wouldn't player 1 has priority to with GS?

Sure. It will still be destroyed, there still was an initial summon, which can still be responded to with Torrential Tribute, even with Priority, it will not change the fact that there was a summon of some form that has taken place, which in this case was a Tribute Summon.
