Dark Magician of Chaos vs Phoenix Wing Wind Blast

This came up at an event today and a similar ruling was used to resolve the issue, however, I wanted clarification.
If Dark Magician of Chaos were to be returned to the deck via Phoenix Wing Wind Blast, would it instead be removed from play or would it indeed be returned to the deck... we used the similar ruling of Fiber Jar (whereby it does get removed from play) to resolve the issue, but I did say I'd ask...
