This past weekend I went to Kings Games in NYC to participate in a PCQ. The format was Golden Age, it went 8 rounds, and the ban was in full effect. I was very curious to see what the new Meta was going to be like.

I decided to run none other then BIG BROTHERHOOD, actually I had no choice, everyone else took my other decks to play with that day.

Round 1:
Got there late, got a game loss, which kind of sucked.

Round 2:
Played straight Fantastic Four, it went curve till turn 5. After that it went off curve, my "Insignificant Threats" and "Quicksilver" pounded it into the ground.

I win.

Round 3:
I faced off against a "My Beloved" deck. He built up a huge field, 3 characters to my one Feral Rage on turn 4. He also managed to get Three "Savage Beatdowns" and three "Acrobatic Dodges" early in the game. I was having a really hard time early in this game.

After he burned his all his "Acrobatic Dodges" on and "Savage Beatdowns" on turns 4 and 5, I run "Lost City"/"Avalon Space Station" combo, on turn 4 he had to use his "Savage Beatdowns" to stun my "Sabertooth" and on turn 5 he used his "Acrobatic Dodges" to save himself. On turn seven, he drops "Lady Shiva," I drop "Magneto". I have no more boost at this point because I had to use it early to stay in the game. I stun everyone on his side of the field except "Lady Shiva". I did this on purpose, my life was well below his and since I had "Magneto" on the field and stunned his whole crew I knew I could sucker him into using "Lady Shiva's" effect to get "Magneto" off the field instead of attacking me. I also had "Scarlet Witch" on the field, so when he did activate, he would at least take 5 more. This worked to my advantage since now my endurance total was 14 higher than his and I keep a good field presence for the next turn to reinforce as much as possible.

Turn eight, He drops "Ral Al Gul", I drop "Apoc". At this point I have 3 characters he has 3. I knew I already had won, I could not see a way he could win. He used lady "Lady Shiva 's" effect to get rid of "Apoc", one less attack to worry about. After this point all I remember he attacked and I managed to boost out of it and stun him in return.

Round 4:
I LOSE.... happens.... lol

No, but really, it was a Brave and Bold Deck. He drew the God hand, and finished me off on turn 6. It was a slaughter!

He team attacked with 4 characters, then "Dynamic Duo", then Flip "GPDC Head Quarters", I respond with "Insignificant Threat", responds with "Fizzle", I would respond with "Lost City" and boost over the total team attack, he responds with "Savage Beatdown", I respond with "Avalon Space Station" for more boost and he responds with another "Savage Beatdown." I mean really, what else could I have possibly done, he had an answer for everything.

This happened every time it was his init, and he would also "Titans Go!", and finish off my field. This happened twice with chains that long. It was incredible! I could not believe how lucky his draws were he had everything to stop my combat tricks at all times, and didn't even need to have his "Alfred" fetch any of it.

Round 5:
Another "My Beloved" deck. This was a funny match up; I won without even having to try. I drew all my "Global Dominations", he would try to search for a character, negate it! He would try to "Avalon Space Station," Negate it! Every location he tried to use was stopped. My "Avalon Space Station"/"Lost City" engine was in full effect.

I win easily.

Round 6:
I lose... Goddamit not again....

I played a Teen Titans Deck... I don't even want think about this match up, it was the worse draw of all time. I didn't draw a location or plot twist till turn 6. It was ugly, so very ugly.

Round 7:
I played against a League Deck. Completely creamed this deck again, "Global Domination" stopped all the character searching, and then "Insignificant Threat" killed him in his initiative since he was dropping below the curve.

I win.

Round 8:
I played against a "Common Enemy" Deck. Early game I was getting my butt kicked. I missed my three drop, he hit his one, two and three drops. By turn four, I was at 40 he was 50. It was looking pretty bad.

Turn 4, I drop "Blob"... Yes, "Blob"... I didn't want to drop "Sabertooth" since I wanted to drop him on turn six, his ability could come in handy when I'm down characters. He drops none other than "Dr. Doom," he team attacks and stuns my "Blob", then "Finishing Moves" him off the field. This is bad.

Turn 5, him 3 characters, I have none. I drop "Quicksilver," he drops "Thing". I stun "Dr. Doom" and a Weenie, He pounds me with "Thing."

Turn 6, I drop "Sabertooth," he drops "Dr. Doom" (6 Drop). He saw I was playing all my plot twists out of my resource row and tried to screw me, I personally would have gone with "Hulk." I had a total of four "Sabertooths" in my hand, "Avalon Space Station" and "Lost City." "Dr. Doom" goes for "Sabertooth," I boost over "Dr. Doom," He tries "Clobbering Time" and I manage to boost out enough to stun "Dr. Doom." Now thing goes for "Sabertooth," I play "Insignificant Treat." Then go to town on the rest of the field.

Turn 8, I skipped turn 7 because it wasn't anything special just me creaming him. He Drops "Silver Surfer," I drop "Apocalypse." I screw up big on this turn the game should have ended o this turn. I forget to use "Apocalypse 's" effect. Then somehow the end of the turn it ends up being -4 to -4. Man, I can't believe I forgot to use "Apocalypse!"

Turn 9, he steals initiative"¦ Saw that coming"¦. He goes "Silver Surfer" to "Sabertooth," one card in his hand. Legal? Hell yes!!! I boost one, "Avalon Space Station," boost one more, "Avalon Space Station," boost another. That's your 19 to my 20 defense"¦. And he scoops"¦.

I win!!!! Yay!!!!

I end up going 5-3, I get 14th. Next time I'll show up on time.

Not bad considering you took a first round loss. That record tends to be how I've performed in PCQ's as of late since January. Well... with the exception of that one Saturday PCQ at PCNY where I took 4th. But I've got like 3-4 other PCQ finishes that are like 14/15 place finishes with mediocre records.

I really need to find a chance to get to a PCQ that is at least semi-local. I missed out on the Rockville, MD PCQ this past weekend because I couldn't get anyone else to help me get up there and split the gas. The next closest PCQ would be this weekend in Georgia, but it's more then 4 hours away as well and I doubt I want to make that trip even though I could probably. And for some reason according to Matt V., our event organizer at Star City Events, UDE doesn't have any events scheduled with us until September! (with the exception of the sneak previews and such). Geez... you're UDE's largest territory PTO with 4 states under your control (Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina) and you can't get any events until September?

Oh well, I'll stop whining, I understand UDE likes to do things in seasons, but VS really has no seasons, Yu-Gi-Oh! does. So it would have been nice to at least have one PCQ in August or something I could look forward to. Anyways, I'm whining again.

I'm sure you weren't happy with that finish, better luck next time and yeah, being there on time is always a good thing, even early sometimes.

I feel your pain... There aren't many PCQs going on right now in the east coast. I was about to go to the one in MD, but then I thought about it more and decided not to. It would have been at least 3 hours each way for me.... Besides they had one right here in NYC (too bad I was late, I'm so stupid).

If I would have been there on time I think I could have made the top 8 or if there was just one more round maybe a 6-3 record could have been good enough.
