"Colorizing" the card art work

Hello,
For the past year or so our venue has been abiding by the “MarkedCards” ruling from the old Judges List. Players in our area have found ittrendy to color the card artwork with not only black marker, but also all colorsof the rainbow. According to your previous rulings below we have not allowedblack or colored marker to be used on the cards.

The biggest headache is that when it comes to coloring thecard artwork (in both black and other colors that is not a signature orautograph) players always come back and say “I was deck checked at the lastregional and the judges did not have a problem with the cards”. This leaves ourvenue looking like we are being “too picky”. However, the reason we have stoodour ground on this issue is because we feel that the coloring of the artworkcan make for poor game play. An example is someone coloring the background of “SpiritReaper” bright red. Now the Spirit Reaper looks a lot like Thestalos TheThunder Monarch at first glance. Why encourage the defacing of art work if itcan cause confusion? It is our opinion that coloring the cards in either blackor colored marker is like playing Yu-Gi-Oh with mittens on your hands. It canbe done, but it makes for a difficult experience!
Right now we rule that when a card is noticed to bedecorated in any of the above ways, they need to be replaced or face a penalty.
We are not only a UDE local tournament venue but also aHobby League store and we will gladly follow any ruling that is made on thisissue. That way we can finally lay this issue to rest.
