Deck Check: Is a Mid-Round Deck Check an abuse of power?
from UDE's Player Management Forums
Deck checking is a very important part of the game.
I've recently been introduced to mid-game deck checking... That is to say, waiting by a table and when players side between games, and then present decks to their opponent, "swoop in" and perform a rapid deck check.
Verifying cards are unmarked and 15 cards remain in the side deck are about as deep as this check goes. It's very fast, lasting no more than 5 minutes unless a problem is discovered.
However, I've been approached by a judge for whom I have a great deal of respect. "I'll do that check if you tell me, but I don't like it". Thus, I'd like to collect some feedback.
I realize judges can overstep their authority and heavy-hand players. I do not believe this method of verifying deck integrity falls into abuse of power, and a lot is dependent upon the method and manners used in the check. But again, I have a lot of respect for the judge and would like to have additional feedback from the community.
What say you?
