Super-special-awesome-ruling-based-deck-content-knowledge vs. long duels
from UDE's Player Management Forums
Hello!
As you know, many rulings have been issued shortly that make your deck contents public(?) knowledge for purposes of some cards, but not for others.
Now assume the following situation:
A player (let's call him Yugi) activates "Different Dimension Capsule" and removes "Volcanic Shell" from play face-down. His opponent (Kaiba) activates Heavy Storm as soon as his Main Phase starts and destroys "Different Dimension Capsule" along with other cards.
The duel continues for a while and many turns later, Kaiba activates the effect of his "Big Eye" and arranges the top 5 cards of his Deck. Then, Yugi wants to activate the effect of his "Volcanic Shell" in the graveyard while he has another one in his hand. As much has happened and the card is removed from play face-down, Yugi does not remember having removed the third copy from play.
Kaiba chains to the activation with his "Reload", Yugi chains "Lightforce Sword", followed by "Disturbance Strategy" as Kaiba passes on his priority. Kaiba now chains "Monster Recovery" and targets his "Blue-Eyes White Dragon".
So we have the following Chain:
Volcanic Shell --> Reload --> Lightforce Sword --> Disturbance Strategy --> Monster Recovery
Resolving the Chain:
"Blue-Eyes White Dragon" is shuffled into Kaibas Deck along with his hand. He draws the same number of cards.
Again, his hand is shuffled into his Deck and he draws the same number of cards.
One random card from Kaiba's hand is removed from play.
Kaiba shuffles his hand into his Deck and draws the same number again.
Now Yugi searches his Deck for "Volcanic Shell" but does not find any. Kaiba checks and then the players remember "Different Dimension Capsule". Yugi confirms that he removed "Volcanic Shell".
How should this situation be handled?
The impact on the game is really heavy, it is clearly impossible to repair anything here.
So should Yugi be issued a Game Loss because he forgot having removed "Volcanic Shell"? He would not have chained any cards if Kaiba had not, so it is Kaiba's fault that he gets a Game Loss instead of a Warning. Imagine a player in that situation, he will not only hate Kaiba, but also the judge(s) and the game (resp. the rulings)...
Also, how shall we explain to players that they can activate "Freed the Matchless General" with no Warriors in their Deck and will simply have lost their draw, but they may not shuffle their "Gladial Beast Murmillo" into their Deck to save it from "Hydrogeddon" if they have no Gladial Beast left to summon?
Also, it is really difficult for any human being to remember which Gladial Beasts are left in the Deck, considering that they shuffle themselves back there quite often.
