Trap Dustshoot/Mind Crush and Phase Declaration

Hi,
Recently, at the New Zealand National Championships, there was a problem involving phase declaration and Trap Dustshoot and later on, the same problem occured with Mind Crush.
In the first instance, the player drew and then summoned a monster without declaring their standby phase or that they were entering mainphase one. The other player said they were activating Trap Dustshoot in the standby phase. They now knew there was a monster card in the player's hand.
The player who summoned the monster objected saying that they had allowed enough time to respond, and since the game was featured and was videoed we can see that there was 26 seconds to respond.
In the next situation, a player had Mind Crush set, a player then drew and activated Reinforcements of the Army without declaring any phases, the player with Mind Crush objected and said that during the standby phase they activate Mind Crush declaring Reinforcements of the Army, since they now knew it was in the players hand.
How should these situations have been ruled?
Yours sincercely,
Carlin Binham
