What would you do?
from UDE's Player Management Forums

What do you do when one player wins before another even gets a turn?
This does not seem fair to the losing player. I asked this same question in another forum and people just wanted to know how it worked. lets just say it happens, do we really think this is going to go over well with the players? I am rather sure I will be asked these same questions very soon... WHat do I tell my valued contenders and players?

Don't worry, you will get the chance to go first next Game (best 2:3). Besides, 1st turn kills are usuallly hard to pull off, and oftimes leave the one attempting it wide open, some of the time not even being able to defend themselves against a mediocre deck. FTK/OTK decks tend to have that as their down side. UDE has been pretty good about banning major components of FTK decks. Let it happen just once at a SJC top 8 and see what happens--remember Cyber-Stein? Yeah, it stinks, but the only thing that UDE can do is make a rule saying that in addition to not being able to attack your opponent on the first turn, no damage, period, can be done to your opponent first turn. I don't know a game that does that. MTG, VS, WoW....Besides, I can still set my 3 Gift Cards and a Bad Reaction to Simoochi on my turn and Activate them during your Standby Phase (tee, hee, hee!)

Yeah, I read a little of that thread last night. It may not seem fair, but there's going to be occasions where even regular play decks pull a winning hand first turn, even with the no-attack clause preventing battle. While I wouldn't say it's all that rare, I also wouldn't say it happens often enough that there would need to be any kind of penalty to prevent it. It's just the nature of any kind of point related game.
