Touche You're right, I was thinking too much like this was a business that gave a rat's rearend about it's future. Seems to be a problem of mine (just ask my boss at work).
I'm sure a few of you are like me in that you've been in the game since close to when it was first released, you know all the "old timers" and have reliable resources for trading or buying cards as well.
I kind of took stock the other day in how many players in my local area from the first couple of years I played are still in the game...I can only count a couple. That got me to examining the turn around on players. Another tell tale sign was when I tried to find locals to trade for a couple of cards from older sets....plain and simple nobody had them. I'm not talking anything that shouldn't have been unattainable either...a 1st Ed. Dark Necrofear and Shield & Sword.
Having looked at those factors then DB sets are sensable and cost effective means for newer players to attain cards that are either out of print or that players simply couldn't attain otherwise. We need to all remember as well that younger players all don't have credit cards or paypal accounts to buy over the net and some live in locations where singles aren't available for hundreds of miles.
