Tales of Symphonia tidbit:

In Tales of Symphonia, there is (are?) a plethera of things you can equip to your characters. Every once and a while, you get an object that, in its info, has a defense to a certain element of magic spells. For instance, the jewels you get from the summon spirits or the Elemental Circlet that Seles drops. If you equip these items to your characters, they resist the spells. But what some people don't know is how to really abuse that feature.

If you equip 3 items to a character that all have a defense against the same element, when you go to your character's Status and look, it will have a picture of that element and the word "Invalid". This makes it so that any spell of that element will not hurt your character. Ah, but it doesn't end there.

If you equip your character with 4 items that have a defense against the same element, your character will "Absorb" all attacks of that element! For example:

In my previous game, I used Raine a lot. At the very end of the game when I was at Derris-Kharlan, I had Raine equipped with:

Spirit Robe (Body)

Elemental Circlet (Head)

Persian Boots (Accessory)

Reflect Ring (Accessory)

The Spirit Robe, Persian Boots, and Reflect Ring all have a defense against EVERY element, automatically making them all invalid on Raine. The Elemental Circlet only had a defense against Water, Wind, Fire, and Earth, so I absorbed those four.

If you don't know how to check whether or not an object resists a certain element, go to your equip menu, put the cursor on the object, and press the start button. It will switch from a description to what kind of benefits the object provides. The last word in the first row is "Def"- look to see if it has a picture of an element there.

Hope you enjoyed this!
