Is it that no one plays VS? Was it Modern DC?

Anyways modern DC is over, YAY:eek:rc1:!!!! On to golden age!

What are you guys planning on running? I have decided to go with Fantastic Fun with the addition of 4 cards from the JLA set. Should I give away my secret...hmmm... Actually lets see if any of you guys can guess what the 4 cards are first. Actually its 2 unique cards... I think I gave away enough hints in this post for you guys to guess my unstoppable combo (semi-unstoppable, nothing is unstoppable).....

Who ran Modern Age? :D

I'm assuming I've missed something in your statement that "DC is over". I don't visit the VS sites besides this one. Whats up?

DC modern is not over, and we are now stepping back to golden age format.

this basically apply to tournaments and so forth, depending on how your TO is.

but during events, the format was Modern depending on what time of date it was.

also, BTW I ran modern, both DC and Marvel and it was fun playing with just 2 sets.

going golden age is like mass confusion. unless you are used to it.

You played actually DC Modern? Actually I'm looking forward to the upcoming Golden Age, it's already a very diverse format, but the addition of JLA should shake things up a bit more. I'm looking to build a JLA/JLI deck (World's Greatest Heroes) that utilizes JLI's 4 or less resource abilities. It should work out well actually from what I've seen in prelim playtesting.

As far as what cards you're looking to add to Fantastic Fun, nothing sticks out in particular right off the bat but I don't know the set that well (not memorized at least, I know the cards I want and that's basically it) I'll come back with a guess after I examine the set closer, but I'm sure it'll be interesting whatever it is.

BTW, this section of the forum at least sees more activity then some others *Cough* Duel Masters *Cough* *Cough* Shaman King *Cough*. Yeah...

Edit: krazy: Yeah, DC Modern isn't officially over, but it's not like anyone actually played it anyways past the PC and the Indy 10K. It ends this weekend so it might as well be over. And granted yes, any TO can just say they want to continue running DC Modern, but what TO in their right mind would do such a thing? It's such a stagnant and horrible format. I myself actually held a vote with my players on what format they'd rather play and it was overwhelmingly in favor of keeping the Golden Age, so we never even switched.

At least PCQ's during DC Modern opened up the sealed format to new players who wouldn't have normally gave it a try.

The one good thing about DC modern was that it was easy to get PC Points...lol... Run GLEE or Superman robots and hope to get a better draw.

My brother in law and I just taught a friend of ours how to play VS and in his first PCQ running Superman Robots, he gets first place...lol You have to love it!!!

i know, and its sad about SK. mostly sad because thouse guys just anahilated the game.

and yes i actually played DC modern. i know its only (was) just GLC and and Superman, but now its JLA and GLC. so it should be somewhat fun.

my x-static deck is modern it contains only Marvel Knights and Avenger cards. lol

but golden age, i have played its alot of cards to play with, and if you already play like 5 other games it worth sticking to modern sometimes. lol

For a guy like me who hasn't had time to pick up his VS deck (old school Fantastic 4) for about a year now and has no clue as to what you're talking about....care to clue me in?

Few in our area play the game and I haven't had time to keep up with it. I'd likely be completely lost with all the "special powers" that have been added since the first couple of sets. Never the less, I'd like to make the old 4 deck as doable as possible if I DO ever pick it back up again.

Speaking of which....and I know this is out of place so forgive me please....the alternate art cards given out for the big events, are they worth much? I've been given a boat load of them while judging YGO and doubt I'll ever do anything with them but would be willing to trade / sell for YGO that I'm looking for. Give me a PM so we can keep it off of this thread which I've already smeared off subject.

Hey John, I posted a VS tutorial in the VS guides section that briefly covers the game basics. Things like Concealed and Concealed-Optional might be some of the things that were added since you last played and I cover them briefly in that tutorial. If it helps. :D

So... No one has a guess at what two cards from the new set (JLA) might make a fantastic fun deck unstoppable (semi-unstoppable).

Maybe another hint, the teck used to win in a fantastic fun deck is the use of the cards "A Child Named Valeria" and "Comsic Radiation" and a crapload of beat equips with burn effects. The only way I can lose is if I run out of "A child Named Valeria" cards to save my butt in the later turns....

Actually that's not one of the cards, but makes me think of even more combos....

one more hint: one is a character and the other is a location.

Ok.. here is the secret tech...

Floronic Man (DJL-121)
KO Floronic Man >>> Return target card from your KO'd pile to your hand.

Slaughter Swamp (DJL-148)
Activate, discard a card >>> Return target character card from a KO'd pile to its owner's hand. Whenever you recruit a Secret Society character with cost 3 or greater, ready Slaughter Swamp.

So, do you guys see the lock? If you pull off the combo you get infinite "A Child Named Valeria" and then you throw a "Catcher's Mitt" in the mix and its a wrap...

There are counters, but it depends on what's popular in you local Meta. If you go against Beat/Sentinals or Teen Titans you have it in the bag.

Not really infinite, you can pull it off several times, but you'll eventually run out of resource points to recruit Floronic Man with so it's not exactly infinite, but it does seem like a fun combo. Now just draw them at the right time while having all your other tech as well and you'll be set, that would actually be the hardest part of the combo. If you don't pull it off before 7, you're probably dead in the water.

man, i almost thought you had something but the recruiting isnt gonna be free so i dont know.

and i think they added the part "recruit" so we dont have no more Dr. Light SHows. lol

It wouldn't have worked with Dr. Light anyways, since he can only bring back characters with a cost of 2 or less. Floronic Man is a 3-drop.

oi, i get it.

the most you could do it is 2 times on turn 6 and a few times on turn 3-5 but by then wouldnt you want to do something else?

Basically yeah, it's not that game breaking in a Fantastic Fun deck. You basically just get to use Cosmic Radiation a few extra times, something that if you've got a good hand to begin with (which this will require to work right in an early turn) you'll already be able to do and win with regardless. I'd be more worried about cards like Null Time Zone popping up and stopping your Child Named Valerias or Cosmic Radiations on your needed turns. Of course you can chain to NTZ before they call a plot twist... but yeah, you can see the haste in it all, especially if they play it on turn 5 with the odd initiative before you even drop Stretch, so you're delayed a crucial turn right there.

So yeah, not trying to burst Alex's bubble, lol, but I just don't see it as game breaking as it might have seemed at first. Maybe Squadron Supreme/Fantastic Four beat will be a better deck.

Utilize Airskimmer along with Fantasticar and Tom Thumb and return your plots and other cards back to your hand with Amphibean. It might also be fun to get that draw on turn 3 with the starter version of Luke Cage. Just an idea, ;), actually one that I've tested in the past... consistancy is the only problem with it.

Forget about doing the combo with cosmic radiation. Think more like stall, how about a "A child Named Valeria" every turn with a "Catcher's Mit" on another character. Stall till turn 9 drop "onslaught" then combo that with "Frankie Ray". I've actually gotten the combo off rather easily the problem is that it is easy to tech against.
