The new wording does not change the ruling and the ruling is not changed. You do not have to have a monster on your side of the field. If there were a change in the ruling, they would have posted something on the Judge List about it in order to make sure that we rule it appropriately.

"Blue-Eyes White Dragon" can be Normal Summoned, so it will be Special Summoned to your side of the field. "Yata-Garasu" can be Normal Summoned, but it cannot be Special Summoned, so the card will be added to your opponent's hand. Hope this helps!

Why would "Spell Canceller" negate a Trap card? Even though it's an equip card, it's still an equip Trap Card, so "Spell Canceller" would have no power of it.

Actually no. It must resolve to the field before you can even activate the effect. When you want to do the damage, you send it to the Graveyard to do so, but it still must resolve on the field first.
