A problem with Submarineroid

A friend from www.setokaiba.com/battlecity/ asked this question, and it was really odd to me. I'll tell you why afterwards.
Here's the question:

Okay, quick refresher on the text of each card:
Submarineroid said:
WATER/Machine-Effect/4/800/1800
This card can attack your opponent directly. When it does, any Battle Damage this card inflicts to your opponent becomes the original ATK of this card. You can change this card to Defense Position at the end of the Damage Step.
Rod of the Mind's Eye said:
Equip Spell
If a monster equipped with this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent, the damage becomes 1000 points.
My question is if Submarineroid is equipped with Rod of the Mind's Eye and attacks directly using its effect, is the battle damage 800 or 1000 points?

The reason why this question is so weird to me is that, I thought that the damage that Sub-roid inflicted became it's origonal attack. I guess I read it wrong.

What Submarineroid DOESN'T mean is that, whatever the value of Battle Damage it inflicts to your opponent (e.g. 1500 because of a Rush Recklessly), the original ATK of Submarineroid then becomes 1800.

It means that you look at the original ATK of Submarineroid, and that amount is what is inflicted as Battle Damage (usually 800, unless there's another card effect going on).

You may already know that. Well, I'm just restating it anyway.

Now, with Rod of the Mind's Eye, the Battle Damage Submarineroid inflicts is 1000. Why? We have this ruling...
• When you equip "Rod of the Mind's Eye" to "Susa Soldier" or "Shadowknight Archfiend", the Battle Damage is 1000 points.
...which confirms this. Both these monsters halve the Battle Damage they inflict (which could be just 50 points when it attacks something like Vorse Raider - half of 100), but Rod of the Mind's Eye overrules this and makes that Battle Damage 1000.
