This came up today at our local,
PLayer A has 3 crystal beast in their spell/trap zone, has Ancient city rainbow ruins on the field and face down monster. player b activates premature burial targeting jinzo, can player a use the effect of rainbow ruins # 3 by sending a face down crystal beast monster or does it have to be face up? Thanks

I will have to disagree Slither.

1. All the other cards from that set that require a face-up (something) to be sent to the graveyard specify that it must be face up.

2. Typically, when you send something to the graveyard for an effect, it becomes known in the graveyard, so it generally does not need to be face up. I give you Manticore of Darkness as an example. It can be a face down Beast, Beast-Warrior, Winged Beast, etc. (Yes I know there are exceptions, but generally....).

Ergo, no, it does not need to be face up.

Ah well that's just the thing, "typically" in this game nothing is like it seems ;)

I agree with slither, sending a crytal beast you control is a cost, a face down monster is just that a face down monster. Thanks for the link slither i thought i had seen the answer but i couldnt find it
