Begone. Knave and Spirit Barrier

I have a query about both cards that I am unsure about. Begone, Knave returns a players monster to hand when Battle Damage and Spirit Barrier reduces the battle damage to 0 if a monster is on the field. My question is that if both cards are on the field and a player inflicts battle damage which is reduced to 0 to a monster, would the effect of Begone. Kave still activate; the main reason of asking is that technically the damage is reduced to 0 but 0 battle damage is still being inflicted, any ideas?

The monster is not returned to the owner's hand.

No damage is inflicted.

Reason that is Spirit Barrier has a Continuos Effect and is immediatley applied reducing damage to 0. Begone, Knaive! must have atleast 1 point of damage in order for it's effect to be applied.
