Bountiful Artemis - EOJ-EN020

Bountiful Artemis
Effect Monster (Fairy / LIGHT / 4 Stars / ATK 1600 / DEF 1700)While this card is face-up on the field, draw 1 card from your Deck each time a Counter Trap Card is activated.

"¢ The effect of "Bountiful Artemis" is a Continuous Effect, and cannot be chained to. You will draw 1 card immediately after a Counter Trap's effects have resolved.

"¢ Your "Bountiful Artemis's" effect will activate even if your opponent is the one who activated the Counter Trap.

"¢ If "Seven Tools of the Bandit" is used to negate the activation of another Trap Card, such as "Magic Jammer", you will not draw a card for "Magic Jammer" since its activation was negated.

When I saw the spoiler for this set, this card caught my attention more than any other. That's right, a friggin' common. But let's take a look at why. It's LIGHT (Chaos food, blah blah blah), it's a Fairy (lots of support monsters now, and even a viable RFG deck-type, works with the Agents and The Sanctuary in the Sky). It's stats are solid, however just out of the realm of searchable.

Ah, so it must be the effect I like so much (free slap in the face for anyone who didn't see that coming ;)). Draw a card anytime a Counter Trap is activated. And it doesn't count just you, it counts your opponents' too. It's deck-thinning, it's advantage. But let's take a look at some of the Counter Traps that will really benefit this ability.

Forced Back - the newest one. Basically, it's the Monarch hater. Not only do you keep the monster off the field, but you get a draw for it with Artemis out. Nice advantage.

Magic Drain - Negate a Spell unless your opponent discards a spell. So they either lose their spell, and you draw. Or they have to drop a Spell from their hand to get the effect through. Either way, you gained advantage.

Solemn Judgment - While the cost can be hefty (unless it's late game), it's the ultimate negater. Getting an extra draw out of it is icing on the cake.

Spell Shield Type-8 - With the extra Crossout available now, this could see more play anyway. You can either negate a targetting spell, or you can drop a Spell to negate any Spell. The card draw helps you even out somewhat.

While there are others (though only 25 Counter Traps total), these should be your primary focus when using Artemis. He's combo oriented somewhat, which makes him sorta lame without a Counter Trap out. And if you set something after summong him, your opponent will likely play more cautious anyway. But still, a fun card that can really swing advantage in your favor.

Advanced - 3.75/5 - If not for relying on Counter Traps to be more useful, he'd be 4 or better.
Traditional - 2/5 - Usable, but why bother?
Limited - 3.5/5 - In EOJ, Forced Back is the only Counter you can use with him. But he still has support with other Fairies if you get some lucky pulls.
