Brain Control
Normal Spell
"Pay 800 Life Points. Select 1 face-up monster on your opponent's side of the field. Take control of the selected card until the End Phase of the turn this card is activated."
If the monster targeted by "Brain Control" is flipped face-down later in the turn, it is still returned back to the original controller in the End Phase.
You cannot activate "Brain Control" if you already have 5 monsters on your side of the field.
[Re: Blindly Loyal Goblin] Your opponent cannot use "Change of Heart", "Snatch Steal", or "Brain Control" on your face-up "Blindly Loyal Goblin".
Let's keep New Ban List week rolling with one of the most hyped cards to come down the pike, Brain Control. Thanks in part to the anime, this card has become very, very popular.
Somehow or another, this thing avoided the banned-restricted list, much to my surprise. We can still use 3 of this bad boy in our decks, but do you want to? Let's see...
Think of it as Change of Heart with a cost. You can use the stolen monster for a tribute summon, launch it with Cannon Soldier, clear your opponent's field for a direct attack, Morph it, you get the idea. It's good. It has a bunch of uses, and the cost isn't that bad. You do use Premature Burial, don't you?
So why review it for New Ban List week? I'm sure it has something to do with control, which seems to be a popular theme in this new format. Brain Control was useful before, it still is now. It wasn't restricted, nor were other cards that allow you to use an opponent's monster like Snatch Steal, The Charmers, and to a lesser extent Mind Control.
It's not a staple, but it's pretty close. It's necessary in control decks, decks heavy on tributes, and decks with (Toon) Cannon Soldier to name just a few.
Advanced: 4/5
Traditional: 3/5 - You have Change of Heart, but only 1
Limited: 4.75/5 - It goes great with Ancient Gear Beast, Millennium Scorpion, Criosphinx and Hieracosphinx. It could also get you the win with a direct attck.
