Characters, series, universes worth adding

EmeraldDragon

Bringer of Doom
So anyway im sitting back in my bed reading comics and wondering what might be really cool in VS. Not many ideas myself mind but something along the lines of Marvel 2099 or even the marvel zombies might be nice. What ideas do you guys have?

Marvel Zombies seems HUGELY popular at the moment. Hot Topic, which I can only best describe as a kind of a Goth clothing store in the US, carries a bunch of their merchandise on clothes and books and stuff. (It may be "Goth" in the sense that's who the store is popular with, but man do they have the best comic/genre related shirts and Tees in that store. Them and Spencer are the best place for that kind of stuff.) I wouldn't be surprised if we do see them in the near future.

But I personally would really love to see a 2099 affiliation. Even if that means Doom continues to be one of the better sets. ;) That won't stop me from playing Spider-Man and Ghost Rider... just because.

The one thing that has always bugged me about VS, is the set was designed to cater to more licenses, and they rooted themselves in Marvel and DC. While that certainly is a deep well to pull from, and I acknowledge the fact that Hellboy is a step in the right direction, it astounds and disappoints me that they didn't do anything else but comics. The fact that some of these other Genres have their own games is not an excuse. Nor is the argument that the game was made only for comics. That doesn't hold any water. Any license can fit on it, if there's a rich universe to draw from.

Things I'd like to see on the system:
  • Transformers (VS Realms already has a fantasy set for these guys)
  • Star Wars (I need to revive my old Fantasy Set thread)
  • Battlestar Galactica
  • Farscape
  • Image Comics
  • Classic Image Comics
  • Star Trek
Amongst others ideas. Though, I wouldn't mind a Animated Series inspired DC set.

Dude image comics would roxxorz. The best one there would be the savage dragon series. Nothing but nothing but great great fun. Especially the baddies modelled after bodily functions.

Somehow though I dont think it would do well reaching into other media types. Star wars in and of itself should be left as a seperate entity to everything else and deserves its own gaming system if it deserves one at all. Same with star trek as they are of the same type and place in time. Battlestar galactica as well might be a little hard to swallow alongside those. The thing is that with the comics no matter how different the worlds its easily explained as being different realities that are all similar in some ways. Sticking in too much of a space faring adveture orientated thing might just not go down so well.

What was that game where ya built the little ships out of card and had them battle? That would be more the star trek star wars and battlestar kinda thing. For character interaction type cardgaming though they would be able to pull off a similar gaming style but not VS in my opinion.

Transformers might be reasonable but it still seems a little off to me. It fits in well enough but I dont see them getting the license to even try it. Which consequentially is another reason the star related ones probably wont happen.

As far as I know, they haven't' even tried, so may never know for certain. Though, who knows if these approaches anyone else and been rejected. I still see it as feasible, though, and played around with it in my Star Wars set a little. Star Wars already has it's own card game right now (it's second one). And it's a Magic rip-off from what I understand. Very character driven. But that set is very movie oriented. Pictures are from the films themselves. I would very much like to see the mechanics of VS applied and the artwork more akin to what we see in the comics and book covers.

I'm thinking I may try doing some fantasy sets with the Bruce Timm characters from the series. That might be fun to have a JLU set.

Dude i stole an image of yours from the star wars create a card thing ya did. Look how nice a Savage Dragon card would be even with my less than great attempts at making one. Also see if ya can guess which card i used as a template.

LSW-001. That would have to be the Maul card. Yeah, Larsen's stuff would fit right into a VS set, without a hitch. I may make another card again today. If I can find my darn inking pens.

I knew I was supposed to remove something else. Id make a few more cards myself but unfortunately Im not exactly a good artist and also I have no inking pens to speak of.

I finally found this Yahoo Group based out of VSRealms who are playtesting a Transformer card set: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/vstransformers/

As I understand it, the Transform keyword is a counter based ability. When a character Transforms he gets a counter that grants him that ability, and vice-versa. I'd to research a little more.

You know, if we had a little more activity here in the VS section, we'd sanction some groups like this. I think it would make us stand out in the VS community if we had a place to develop fantasy card sets on the forum. Maybe even make it a joinable User Group. It doesn't matter if the card sets ever see the light of day or not, it's just for the fun of it. And there's clearly a community that supports the concept.

From their files section.....

Transform

Some cards, like Cliffjumper, Fierce Fighter have the keyword
Transform. The following are the official rules for this keyword:

"Transform" is a keyword on character cards that represents a
continuous power that functions in the in-play zone. Transform and
transform! counters have special rules that apply only to them and not
to counters that have other names.

A character with transform! does not come into play with a transform
counter on it.

During the formation step, a player may add or remove a transform
counter from each character with transform! that he or she controls.

As a character becomes stunned, do not remove all transform counters
from it.

A character can't have more than one transform counter on it at a time.

A character that doesn't have transform can't have any transform
counters on it.

The phrase, "Transform: [text]," means, "While this character has a
transform counter on it, it has [text] and all other text is inactive.
If the character does not have a transform counter on it, it does not
have [text].

Characters that don't have transform can't have transform counters put
onto them in any way. Characters that do have transform can have one
transform counter put onto them by certain effects if they don't
already have one; a transform counter can't be put onto a character if
it already has one.

A character, like Rogue, Power Absorption, may copy a transform power,
but only if it's currently active, i.e. the character has its
transform counter. Once the power is copied, the original character's
transform counter no longer affects the copied power.

Commander
Any other character in a column with a character with Commander gains
+1 ATK and +1 DEF while the character with Commander is unstunned.

EDIT:

No need to answer my pm now DJ. I found something to help me. Here is the new improved card.

i havent seen any of worlds finest yet. but...

vslobo6ia7.jpg

Reservist
Invulnerability
Lobo cannot be KO'd or exhausted by card effects. At the start of every turn Lobo is the only character on your side of the field put a +2/+2 counter on lobo.

-----

I think he needs a loyalty w/ reveal
or something...
but if he had a card it should be something along those lines.

also

G.I.Joe (comic)
and
Ninja Turtles (comic)

G.I Joe would have to have at least one card that made yelling "Yo, Joe!" a payment power. Maybe Turtles could make someone say "Cowabunga!"

im pretty sure UDE already owns the rights to make/print a TMNT card game.

They released one a few years back that was really fun, but didnt catch on.
They could definately do it with VS i think, specially with the sucess of the last TMNT movie

Hmmm I was debating adding in TMNT cards into the savage dragon set (crossovers. Ya gotta love em) and i think i shall now.

I think that maybe something from across the water might be good. Maybe do a series of cards based on some manga franchises. Yeah most have their own cardgame already but it might not be that hard to make them into VS cards too. might even boost the sales of VS and get it into more markets.
