Chiron the Mage - Timing? Response?

nkarunatilaka

The Syndicate...
Player A summons Chiron the Mage.

Player A declares Priorty to use its effect.

Player A discards a Spell card and destroys a S/T on the opponent's field.

Now, Can Player B respond with Torrential Tribute, Bottomless Trap Hole, or Trap Hole, or have they missed their timing? Also, if the destroyed S/T card was one of the above 3, may they be activated in response or has timing been missed?

Would appreciate an answer asap.
Thanks for the help guys.

CHiron the Mage's effect is no different then something like, say, Cannon Soldier. When you summon it, you retain priority to use it. But it can still be chained to. When you do use it upon summoning, the chain you create is in response to that summon. So any card that has the summon response timing can be placed in this chian. (e.g Bottomless Trap Hole, Torrential Tribute, etc.)

But this is a chain, and as such, the targeted card can be chained to his effect. But if you wait for the targeted card to be destroyed, you won't be chaining anything. The cards destroyed and in the Graveyard at this point. And if you wait for Chiron's effect to resolve, well, you've missed the summon response window. You have to place Torrential Tribute in the same chain as Chiron the Mage's effect.

Just a quick question, are you saying let Chiron's effect fully resolve and THEN activate Torrential, OR activate Torrential AFTER Chiron's effect?

If you are saying after Chiron's effect has fully resolved then you cannot activate TT.

I just want to remind everyone that Priority gives the Turn Player the ability to activate an effect before the opponent can respond. It does not mean that effect will resolve immediately, which was implied by nkarunatilaka's initial post.

Actually no. I said he has to chain to Chiron's effect. If he waits for Chiron's effect to resolve he's missed his response window.

Something like this....Player A summons Chiron the Mage, targets a set S/T card on the opponents side of the field and discards a spell card to activate Chiron's effect. Player B doesn't respond and lets the S/T card be destroyed. Player B then activates Torrential but the timing is missed because the last thing to happen was NOT the summoning of Chiron but the S/T card being destroyed by Chiron's effect. Torrential would have to be chained to the activation of Chiron's effect in order for the timing NOT to be missed.

Change it so they discard their card first, THEN target the Spell/Trap, and it will be just about perfect....lol
