Different Dimension Capsule PGD-EN083

Different Dimension Capsule
Normal Spell

Select 1 card from your Deck and remove it from play face-down. During your 2nd Standby Phase after activation, destroy this card and add the removed card to your hand.

"¢ If "Different Dimension Capsule" is destroyed with "Heavy Storm", etc., the card removed from play remains removed from play for the rest of the Duel.

"¢ If "Imperial Order" is activated, count the Standby Phases normally for "Different Dimension Capsule". If "Imperial Order" is active during the 2nd Standby Phase, you cannot add the removed card to your hand and "Different Dimension Capsule" stays on the field meaninglessly, and the removed card remains removed from play for the rest of the Duel.

"¢ If "Imperial Order" is chained to the activation of "Different Dimension Capsule", then the effect of selecting a card from your Deck disappears and "Different Dimension Capsule" is destroyed.

"¢ [Re: D. D. Scout Plane] If "D. D. Scout Plane" is removed from play and is face-down while out of play, such as with "Lightforce Sword" or "Different Dimension Capsule", "D. D. Scout Plane"'s effect does not activate. But if "D. D. Scout Plane" was face-down on the field, and was removed by "Nobleman of Crossout", it is placed face-up while out of play and its effect does activate.

"¢ [Re: D.D.M. - Different Dimension Master] You cannot Special Summon a monster that was removed from play face-down using "Lightforce Sword" or "Different Dimension Capsule".

"¢ [Re: Dimension Distortion] "Dimension Distortion" can only Special Summon a monster that is face-up while removed from play (cannot Special Summon a monster removed with "Lightforce Sword" or "Different Dimension Capsule").

"¢ [Re: Dimension Fusion] You cannot use "Dimension Fusion" to Special Summon a monster that was removed from play and kept face-down, like with "Lightforce Sword" or "Different Dimension Capsule".

"¢ [Re: Gren Maju Da Eiza] "Gren Maju Da Eiza"'s effect includes cards removed from play face-down with "Lightforce Sword" or "Different Dimension Capsule".

"¢ [Re: Lost Guardian] Monsters removed from play and kept face-down, like with "Different Dimension Capsule" or "Lightforce Sword", do NOT count towards the DEF of "Lost Guardian".

"¢ [Re: Pharaoh's Treasure] You can select a face-up "Pharaoh's Treasure" from your Deck for "Different Dimension Capsule"; the "Pharaoh's Treasure" is removed from play and kept face-down until the time elapses, at which point it is added to your hand, but it was not drawn so its effect does not activate.

"¢ [Re: Primal Seed] "Primal Seed" can add cards to your hand that were removed from play face-up ("Dimensionhole") or face-down ("Different Dimension Capsule").

"¢ [Re: Serial Spell] If you chain "Serial Spell" to "Different Dimension Capsule" it will copy the effect and remove 1 card you select in your Deck from play, face-down. But because "Serial Spell" does not remain on the field, the selected card remains removed from play face-down and is not placed in your hand.

Ah, the thinning capacity that is Different Dimension Capsule. This card is rather rentsy, but plays some really nasty mind games with your opponent. You could have put anything from Pot of Greed (feeling rentsy, eh?) to another Different Dimension Capsule in there, and they have no way of knowing. The downside is that if DDC dies, your card is remaining out of play for the rest of the game, unless you bust out some Primal Seed action. ^_^

This card has some comboes, but they mostly relate to deck thinning. Pulling out another DDC or a Toon Table of Contents will ensure that even if they kill DDC, you didn't lose anything of real value.

This card is an automatic 1 for 1 as long as it survives. You lose DDc, and you get the card that was in it. It's a 2-1 for your opponent if they kill the capsule because they also prevent use of the card you put in the capsule. It's fun to use, mind games wise, but that's mostly it.

This card, sadly, has a lot against it. It may be a normal Spell, but it remains on the field, which means that it remains vulnerable to s/t removal in all forms. Also, it's a very risky card to play, and a horrible topdeck, because its useless immediately.

When playing this card, use it to put your opponent off balance. Also, never put anything you'll miss too dearly inside it, or you'll regret it. Unless you've seen every s/t removal card they have get used, don't put anything too good inside it.

The best deck for this card is probably a Primal Seed-based deck, because you can afford for them to destroy the card, as Primal Seed can put it in your hand.

Ah"¦ The underrated wonder that is Different Dimension Capsule"¦ Most people look at this card and think "What the crap". But really, there is a lot more to it then just that. Most people also don't see what the best part about DDC is- It gets rid of bad topdeck, thins out your deck, and lets you search for anything you want, if it stays on the field, that is. And, it can be put anywhere and still work.

Comboing and this card go together like grapes and pineapples. First off, there's using this and Magic Reflector to ensure that it doesn't get destroyed before you can get your card. Then, there's the method of using this card to search out another DDC or any other card you don't want to actually draw, and see if your opponent wastes spell removal on it, while you simultaneously rid your deck of cards that just will not help you in the duel. Choosing another DDC and getting it can really help you take a lot of cards out of your deck.

The advantages and disadvantages of this card depend on what card you choose and whether or not DDC gets destroyed. If you choose a useful card like Pot of Greed and DDC is not destroyed, you just took 3 cards out of your deck. However, if DDC does get destroyed, you just lost advantage. You also can't get back any card that you choose, which is rather un-coolio. Likewise, if you choose a card you don't really need, like another DDC and you do get it, more power to you. If not, nothing really was lost, so that's okay.

Make sure you know your opponent's resources when using this. If you select Pot of Greed and DDC gets destroyed because you forgot your opponent just chose MST with Magician of Faith, that's poor planning. Also make sure the card you may or may not get won't make too much of a difference other than thinning your deck.

As previously stated, this card goes anywhere with ease and has no particular deck it needs.

Ratings:
Advanced: 3/5.
Traditional: 1/5. Not a good idea here at all, IMO.
Limited: 3/5. It really depends on what you have.
Sealed: 3/5. See above.

If you run a deck that requires some continuous Spell or Trap cards such as Skill Drain decks or Burn this card can be great. The science to using DDC well is in the fact that you are most likely going to be running more than 1 of the continuous cards your deck is based around. Nobody runs a Skill Drain deck with just 1 Skill Drain, and getting to it ASAP can be very important. For these types of situations your goal is a) get the continuous card you need quickly and b) bate out your opponent's spell/trap removal so they don't have it to use against you once you have started to control the field. Nothing is worse than having your Level Limit in place and 1 or 2 Wave Motion and having your opponent nail you with Heavy Storm. DDC has good intimidation value and can make your opponent trigger happy to get rid of it. If it gets destroyed you'll still have another copy of the card you need in your deck and now 1 less form of removal to contend with.

Good targets for DDC usually include Skill Drain, Level Limit - Area B, Gravity Bind, Magic Reflector, Curse of Royal, or even another Different Dimension Capsule.

One thing to note is the false belief that you are safe with retrieving a critical card if you use Magic Reflector, Giant Trunade will still bounce your Capsule back to your hand leaving that critical card removed and only retrievable by Primal Seed.
