discard destroyed sent = sent

hello all :)

my question,
is discard, destroyed and sent, all considered as "sent"

i can´t find anything about that in the advance gameplay. but it must be all considered as "sent" because you can activate the effect of peten, if he is "discard" by the effect of gracefull charity.

peten:
sent to your graveyard

graceful:
discard any 2 cards from your hand.

so it must be true that discard is considered as sent?!

can you agree with that?

Well not entirely, a discard usually ends up with a send to graveyard part.

But a send to graveyard isn't a discard.

Same for destroyed, it usually has a send to graveyard part, but sent to graveyard isn't destroyed.

A card that is destroyed, tributed, or discarded is sent to the graveyard unless a card effect prevents it from doing so. If it goes to the graveyard, it was sent to the graveyard.

A card can be discarded to the Graveyard from your hand or deck.  A card can be sent to the Graveyard from your hand or field of play.

When a card is destroyed, it is usually by the result of a card effect or Battle Damage.

Both of these terms, "Destroyed" and "Sent" determine the outcome of various effects.

Vampire Lord must be "Destroyed" by an opponents card effect in order to be Special Summoned.  If he is sent to the Graveyard, like in a Tribute Summon, his effect disappears.

If Night Assailant is "Sent" to the Graveyard from your hand, then his effect to return one flip effect activates.

Cards "Sent" to the Graveyard by Painful Choice, Graceful Charity, and Card Destruction are not "Destroyed".

Raigeki "Destroys" Monsters on your opponents side of the field.

Chaos Emperor Dragon - EoTE "Sends" cards to the Graveyard for his effect and they are not "Destroyed".

Put quite simply my friend, if you discard Petin with Graceful, yes, you'll get the effect, even though it says "discard two cards" when you discard a card you are essentially sending it to the graveyard.

Remember also that Petin's effect activates only if at the end of a chain, in this case, the last part of the resolution of Graceful Charity is the discarding portion so you may activate Petin's effect.

Same goes if Petin is sent to the graveyard by Painful Choice.

There was no need to make this difficult for the guy he was just mainly wondering if discarding was the same as sending, when sending is essentially what it says "sending a card to the graveyard" so everytime a card goes to the graveyard, it is being sent, whether it's been destroyed by battle or another card effect, or it's been tributed for another effect or monster, or it's been discarded.

I agree that in the end, all cards get sent to the Graveyard regardless of how they managed to get there.  Its just that some cards have added on effects depending on how they came to be in the Graveyard.  If you dont clarify "Destroyed and Sent" versus just "Sending", then you open the Pandora's Box for, "Well they said it was sent, so I get this effect even if it wasnt destroyed!!"  We have all seen that player at least once or twice.  

Just yesterday, I am having to explain in a Tournament to a player his card, Spirit Reaper, and its effect.

He had Spirit Reaper and took control of my Swarm of Scarab and destroyed my remaining monster and attacked my life points directly and was about to end his turn when I asked him if he was going to use Spirit Reapers effect.  Now, this is a player that has been involved in the game for quite some time.  But, like most people who have to have the lastest thing out, never looks back to see what he has and learn to use the card.

Basically, all he was doing was using it for its main effect, and attacked me cause he could.  

I loved the fact that I summoned Mobius and destroyed 2 of his S/T cards and was able to attack Spirit Reaper with my Premature Burial reborn Freed the Matchless General and Mobius!!!  :evil:

He didn't say the effect was optional... He was saying that the guy in his story forgot about the effect and just didn't know...

Anyways, and Petin is a "sent" effect not "destroy" effect, so it can get it's effect whether it's discarded, destroyed, etc.

There is no need to bring up other things for a ruling when it's not involved at all with the cards at hand, any post that does so I will consider spam and will think about penalties, I'm sorry guys, but when you confuse people, that leads to the passing of bad rulings, 90% of the time, that's how a ruling or rumor of a change get's started, because some judge was giving the correct ruling, but went too far into the explanation bringing up a million other cards in the process and just confused the kid asking.

For now on, just answer about the cards at hand, don't bring up anything extra...

Sorry... needed to vent some frustration...

The person understands now after my original post, this thread is locked.
