There are some cards that say that you can tribute a monster on the field to bring out a monster and others that say tribute a monster on your side of the field.

What is the difference?

The key term "Tribute Summon" refers to your monsters.

You may NEVER tribute your opponents monster to bring out a monster or pay a cost except when says you can like Lava Golem. But his Text specifically denotes that you tribute 2 of your opponents monsters.

Because the use of templates isn't absolute...Only for nomi monsters. We need Templates.
