How to do I go about writing an article?

I was contemplating on writing an article in that article section of the forum, but I do know what steps to take to write one. Do I just write it on my own time and then go to that forum and post it and get the posters to help make it better or something? Thanks.

Write it and post it and hope that it's moved to that forum. Prod a mod if you must to accomplish this goal.
