Its a theory at the moment, and a longshot in this scenario, but could be done many different ways....:
Bonz controls a face-up defense position Spirit Reaper. He also has a face-down Skill Drain, and two cards in his hand.
Bonz flips over Skill Drain, pays the required amount.
Main Phase 1
Bonz activates Demotion, equipping it to Spirit Reaper, which for the moment, is a legal play.
Bonz then activates Opti-Camoflauge Armor to the same Spirit Reaper, which is still legal.
Bonz then activates Mystical Space Typhoon targetting the Skill Drain, destroying it.
The end product is that Bonz is left with a Spirit Reaper than can attack directly, but cannot be destroyed as a result of battle, since Skill Drain is no longer active.
Or does it get destroyed?

Answer:
While "Skill Drain" is active, you can equip cards to "Spirit Reaper," but when "Skill Drain" is negated or leaves the field the "Spirit Reaper" is destroyed because it is equipped.
