On a tip card, it said that when the equipped monster of an equip card is
removed from the field, the equip card(s) are destroyed.

Is this the actual case, or are they simply removed from the field?

Answer:

If an Equip Spell Card is equipped to a monster and the equipped monster is
removed from the field or turned face-down, the Equip Spell Card is destroyed.

I know some of you are going to ask if this changes anything for the
"Butterfly Dagger - Elma." It does not.

So the obvious question leads from this: have we changed (again) the definition of "destroyed"?

That's exactly what I thought when I read this .... *rolleyes*

Sorry.. but ALL that I've ever known there's a difference between 'destroyed' and 'sent to Grave'...

and to get a card 'destroyed', there must have happened ANOTHER CARD EFFECT specifically stating that it DESTROYED the card.

When the target of an Equip is no longer legal, it gets sent to the Grave...
that's what was correct for quite some years, why do they have to change everything every couple of weeks??? -_-

The reason "Butterfly Dagger Elma" would not come back was because it was destroyed by a game mechanic, not a card effect.

You DON'T think that this is EASIER to understand than the fact that there's a difference between 'destroyed' and 'sent to Grave'???
Please don't tell me that! o_O

Now we have to differ between

destroyed by a game mechanic
destroyed by another cards effect
destroyed by ~ whatever ~ (I'm pretty sure this guys will come up with something ABSOLUTELY NEW which won't make sense in the first place)
sent to Grave

Nice work... *rolleyes*

Ick, I read this again and the same question pops into my head...

"Okay, so we know that equip cards are destroyed if their monster is removed from the field or flipped face down, but what about if they are destroyed as a result of battle?"

I know it may be moot because "removed from the field" could be all inclusive of tributes, battles, and card effects, but I've also made the mistake of assuming that and it can lead to some serious consequences.

Actually, I believe it's because it's no longer equipped to a monster. There are no stipulations on how BD-E is destroyed, just that it has to be equipped at the time.

Butterfly Dagger Elma
Equip Spell
A monster equipped with this card increases its ATK by 300 points. When this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard while equipped to a monster, this card can be returned to the owner's hand.

Yes, you are correct.

Just to clarify, the "Butterly Dagger Elma" is being destroyed by a mechanic, but the reason to why its effect doesn't work is because it wasn't equipped to a monster at the time.

The problem I see is that they change every game mechanic every other month although it's absolutely unnecessary...

Q: If "Butterfly Dagger - Elma" is equipped to a monster and the monster is destroyed in battle or by
an opponent's card effect will this cards effect still activate?
A: If the monster the "Butterfly Dagger - Elma" is equipped to is destroyed, the "Butterfly Dagger - Elma"
will be sent to the Graveyard and will not return to the owner's hand. Curtis Schultz, 12/21/2003

I mean... WE are the judges who bring this rulings to the duelists...
FIRST... they are mad at US when they hear us stating an Equip Spell Card gets destroyed when it no longer has a legal target.
LATER... they may be mad at Mr. Schultz, Mr. Tewart, whole UDE or Konami or whatever they want... ^^

But it's unnecessary to bring the duelists into rage by changing everything from time to time...

and that's what's giving me headaches, although I am 'on their side'....

<laffin> Yeah, don't I know the feeling. Then again, we're not here to be liked as judges, just rule and keep it fair. <shrug>
