The Syndicate...
Ok so i went to my local card shop tonight for there tourney. To my astonishment, Robert Pace showed up (hopefully some of you guys know of him).

So as my luck turned out, I had to vs him first, but its all good, as i could finally get some good testing before the SJC.

I didnt know what to expect of him, as i have never vs'd him before. But he ended up playing a very VERY good Dark World deck. 1st game, he owned me. Although there was a 1000lp differential between his and my calculators, he still ended up winning the 1st game and owning me. XD

2nd and 3rd game i won, so i overall won him 2-1. I have to say that today i had one of the hardest duels i had in a while. His deck was greatly designed. It seemed to have really no flaws. It was one of the better Dark World decks that i have seen.

It utilized Skill Drain, as he created the deck focusing on Graveyard effects. Very ingenious. But i have to give him props for creating one of the better Dark World Themed decks that i have seen.

I guess thats all, and thought you guys of CoG might enjoy.

I enjoyed your update.
Thanks for sharing.

He's played at several regionals and was at the EE preview. I'm pretty sure he'll be playing at the SJC in 2 weeks as well. He typically does pretty well.

There will be a regional this weekend. If he goes, hope your post didn't spoil he deck theme...

I would hope not =/

But I wouldnt think so, because if it would, then he wouldnt play it. XD as he knows that word travels fast. :)

Skill Drain and Dark World Monsters isn't much of a secret. On the other website I am a Member of, we have already discussed how that would work together about a week ago.

Besides, it's not like you gave the total contents of his Deck. Just one card and the theme.

This thread almost killed me. *dies* Ouch... You tell us he had this amazing deck, but you don't tell us what deck YOU used, OR how you beat him? I'm curious...

I dont know... It's hard to be amazed by a Deck you beat 2-1. You can be impressed over a "nice concept" build, but it obviously isnt consistent, depending on the situation.

I doubt he had a Anti-Dark World Deck to go against it (as he didn't really seem mentally prepared for one), so I think it really came down to the fact that Pace's Dark World Support wasnt as fluid enough to keep monsters on the field.

It was probably more a case of "Hey, here's a great player, and I get to face him for the first time!!!" And everything else just kind of blurred away.

Game 1 he owned me and had total control, as his Skill Drain really was screwing with my deck (making the mobius(s) in my hand useless) ><. He murdered me with Goldd and Silva basically.

Game 2 i won. Basically i won this just by getting an overall better hand to begin with. I basically had control in my hand the enitre time, with swordsman LV2 eliminting his FD threats and Dust(s) and Mobius to compliment his FD S/T's, although at times it did seem that he had the game

Game 3 was the heard won. It went neck and neck. He played Skill Drain 3 time i believe (paying 3000lp) which ended up causing him the duel. There was monster retaliation back and forth. He was able to send that dark world monster to the grave and draw 2 cards (not sure on its name) and then later on got Goldd out on me, but i had no FD spells. The game deciding move that caused me the win was when he was at 2900 and i was 3300, he had Silva out, and about 2 face downs and a Skill Drain in play. I had Jinzo, Mobius, Exiled Force(which he saw previously), Premature, Heavy, and Creature Swap in my hand. I activated Heavy Storm and he chained his Dark Deal to it, elimintating my Heavy Storm and allowing him to bring forth his Goldd. Since i had no Face Downs its 2nd effect was useless, but he did had field presence and card adv.

I checked my graveyard and noticed that the weakest monster i could obtain was Spirit Reaper, with 300 atk. And then i almost forgot that Pace had his Skill Drain out, which i then used to my adv. I prematured my reaper, and then Creature Swapped it for the win.

So thats basically how it went down. The deck i was using was very similar to that of my 'My Latest .... and its a Keeper' deck, although deck size was dropped down to 41 and it was more consistant.

I guess your right in that. =/ lol.

Basically i was amazed at the 'concept' of his build. His deck was consistant for all games, although i did win the series 2-1. I learned to use the weakness of his deck against him (ie spirt reaper and his Skill Drain). It was a close match. Neck and Neck. It just seemed that I had what was necessary to defeat him. Theres always the chance of bad hands / bad topdecks, and some player errors (although i couldnt see any errors in his plays =/) ;) lol.

But all in all, i would say that he could use some deck tuning as you stated, it wasn't quite fluid enough for him to keep his monsters. But I still like his 'concept'.
