Thief of Always
DC Gets New Logo
This Month

May 09, 2005

The New York Times is reporting, in a story by George Gene Gustines, that DC is changing its logo to a new design for its comics and all other uses of the brand later this month. According to the article, the first book featuring the new logo will appear May 25th, with the full line carrying the new logo the following week. The Batman Begins movie will also feature the new logo (in an animated version).

The new logo has a proud graphic heritage to live up to. The current logo dates from 1977, when it was created by superstar graphic designer Milton (I Love New York) Glaser. It was a variation on an earlier design that also featured the letters in a circle.

Wow, didn't really see this coming. The new logo looks cool and all, but it just isn't gonna look right without the old logo IMO. I guess with changing times you get changing logos, but if you've got nearly 30 years with one logo then why change it now? Looks more like the GI Joe logo now then a logo that DC would use.

ya the old logo looked like the back of a bullet, it was kind of kool cause it protrayed "hard hitters" kind of thing.

maybe it was just me, but the other oen rocked.

you know who needs a logo though, Marvel the white text on red drop is kind of plain.

but i guess everybody has different tastest right. :D

and yea new logo does look kind of Super Hero type.

Apparently, they removed it. That's what I get for hot linking instead of saving it.

Sorry. My bad.

Personally, I think it's about time. I've always thought the other logo looked dated. Made in the seventies, and looked it. This has got a nice modern feel I think the company image needed. Either way, I like change for the better.
