Newdoria PGD-EN057/DR1-EN005

Newdoria
Effect Monster (Fiend / DARK / 4 Stars / ATK 1200 / DEF 800)

When this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard as a result of battle, destroy 1 monster on the field.

"¢ You can destroy a face-down monster with "Newdoria".

Ah, the wonder that is Newdoria. I personally adore this card, because it's extremely versatile. It can be used aggressively to get a 2-for-1 trade (suiciding into a monster with 1200 ATK, rare, but lots of card advantage).

This card has great comboes with Creature Swap and, less effectively, Shien's Spy. Since it's a graveyard effect, even if they control it, you get the effect. It's an automatic 1-1, unless a Dark Ruler Ha Des or some other negation/non-battle means kill it. This means your opponent always has to make a 1-1 trade to get rid of it. They may even have to overextend to get around it.

This card is Dark, so it's immediate chaos food. It's searchable by several means, including Sangan and Mystic Tomato, and its 1200 ATK and 800 DEF ensure that it will die, which is usually a good thing for the user of this card. It also provides immediate psychological benefits, as your opponent won't have an early guess as to if you are running Fiend or Chaos, so its splashability is really good.

This card is Level 4, so it'll get hit by 2 out of 3 of the big stall cards. It's a bad topdeck when you are losing badly, but otherwise, you should be glad to see it. Otherwise, not too much going against, besides its dependence on hitting the Graveyard.

When playing this card, you can use 2 styles: 1) Be overly aggressive with it. or 2) Be defensive and throw off your opponent's tempo. Also, be weary of Nobleman of Crossout when playing this card defensively.

This card is really splashable in Chaos, but is most at home in a Fiend deck. It's an overall good card.

Advanced: 4/5 Really sweet card.
Traditional: 3/5 Mass monster removal is back, that hurts this card.
Sealed Pack: 5/5 Best pull possible in some cases.
Limited: 4/5 Great pull.

Words cannot express the love I have for Newdoria. I will try to put my bias aside though and give you all a fair and impartial review of this card.

Let's face it, the stats are sub-par. 1200 ATK won't kill much of anything and 800 DEF is easy Tsukuyomi fodder. But having these low stats are also a blessing. It's searchable by Mystic Tomato, Sangan, and Witch of the Black Forest (Traditional). DARK makes it Chaos splashable and Fiend-type is Dark Necrofood, not to mention it goes well with other forms of Fiend support.

It's effect, however, is what makes this guy a force to be reckoned with. (Yes, I said it. Hang on, I'll explain.) When it's destroyed in battle and sent to the Graveyard, pick a monster and it also will be destroyed. That's right, any monster... any monster at all. Your opponent attacks this and that attacking monster can be destroyed. Your opponent swarmed you? Destroy the monster that didn't attack.

This can also be used offensively. Crash this into a Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning and take the 1800 damage to take it out. (Of course, you could help reduce that damage with a Bark of Dark Ruler.) Crash this into a Marauding Captain swarm and the field is clear.

Obviously these are just a few examples of what you can do with the effect. Since it can be used both offensively and defensively, be creative. Newdoria is best used in a Dark Necrofear deck, possibly with heavy focus on field control. I could see it splashed into Chaos control because of it's DARK type, but I think that it would be best to side it in that case and brought out against a swarming opponent.

For those of you who may have overlooked this card in the past, don't. It's not for every deck, but in the deck(s) it's best suited for, it really is quite useful.

Advanced: 3.6/5 - Field advantage both offensively and defensively.
Traditional: 2/5 - Too much monster removal to be helpful here.
Limited: 4/5 - You can do a nice field control deck with this and some other PGD options.

I also happen to be a big fan of the art.

Newdoria rocks my socks off. I love it. It is awesome.

Do I run it? No... But I should. It's a narshty little surprise there for your opponent... *evil grin, evil grin*
