Otohime LOD-EN069

Otohime
Monster Type : Spellcaster
Attribute : LIGHT
Level : 3

This card cannot be Special Summoned. This card returns to the owner's hand during the End Phase of the turn that this card is Normal Summoned or flipped face-up. When this card is Normal Summoned or flipped face-up, you can change the battle position of 1 face-up monster on your opponent's side of the field.

This is a card that isn't touched on much. In this present advanced format, this card can be very threatening to many decks. Combined with other strong monsters it is almost an unstoppable attack force.

Otohime alongside a Cyber Dragon, Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke, Drillroid or another strong monster, easily summoned monster, or defense destructor can destroy the biggest threats to your life points. Every Monarch has a defense that can be beaten easily. Jinzo has horrible defense, same with Vampire Lord. Otohime can also switch Scapegoats to attack position and then you can let your monsters attack with full damage, unlike Tsukuyomi who flips cards face down, Tsukuyomi in this present advanced format can prove to be bad topdeck. She can take down many monsters, but most people only really run ONE flip-effect monster (Magician of Faith). Tsukuyomi also cannot switch Scapegoats or destroy Spirit Reapers.

Yes, Otohime can destroy those pesky Spirit Reapers, Otohime's effect targets one face-up monster on the field, and the monster stays face-up. Otohime also destroys those annoying Beserk Gorillas instantaneously.

So far we've covered that Otohime can be a huge threat to aggro, zombies, and even your classic beat down.

She's your Enemy Controller to be used over and over again.

The only big defect about her is her 0 attack, which can easily backed up with a different monster. She was created to be used alongside another monster.

Another defect is that she isn't very attractive on the card. :p

Advanced : 3.5
Traditional : 1

Well, you're definetely right about the attack. the edge tsuki has over her is that tsuki ALONE can kill any monster with less than 1100 defense, which Otohime cannot do. Anyway, both of their names kinda sound like someone sneezed, to my untrained ears. Here's a combo: Venegeful Bog Spirit/Big tusked mammoth, Otohime, Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke, Light of Intervention. Or: Stumbling, Otohime, Ninja, Mystic LV2. Both give pretty impressive field control, especially if you've a Solemn Judgment to stop that Dark Hole/Heavy Storm.

I don't think you've grasped that Otohime is much better in this current format. Tsukuyomi has lost some power because most people only run 1 flip-effect. And if you're like me, Tsukuyomi is really no problem, Cyber Dragon's have a 1600 defense, that's something she can't beat. Rocket Warrior, the monarchs are too strong for her, Jinzo, almost every formitable monster cannot be defeated by her alone. Same goes for Otohime. Alongside a monster (preferably Cyber Dragon, so you can summon them both in the same turn.) they can beat almost ANY monster. Jinzo is good to have face-up when you're destroying it because you don't want them countering your attacks. Monarchs crumble. Scapegoats get mauled. Tsukuyomi can gain field control, so can Otohime, but at the same time, Otohime can get some hard to reach spots, like getting past a Spirit Reaper, while Tsukuyomi would just flip it face-down.

I'm mostly saying that I hope to see more play of Otohime.

Thanks to a trample deck I used to run that Evil Fiber Jar now often runs something similar to....and the genius of patman113 and his spirit deck that uses Otohime and Ultimate Offering that I played for fun last weekend....and patman and I both having worked wicked and delightful new themes using Ultimate Offering.....I'm thinking you're beginning to see where my mind is going....

Otohime with Ultimate Offering is great fun, and I think it could be even more so in a trample deck. Imagine yourself with Spear Dragon or Airnight Parshath on the field and Ultimate Offering active.....and Otohime in your hand :D Evil Fiber Jar also happens to run Kassier Colusium (if the prior wasn't enough)

patman likes to run Spring of Rebirth and that trap card for Spirit decks that returns a monster on your opponent's side of the field to their hand when a monster of yours returns to your hand.....along with Fire Princess

patman has some real genius btw, encourage him to share more of his decks here. You won't be disappointed.

I ran Ultimate Offering, it's another great card that I will soon review. I took it out because my field gets flooded easily without it. I wish more people used it.

Otohime, (Japanese for 'luminous jewel', also called Toyo-tama) was a goddess in Japanese mythology, and the daughter of Ryujin, the god of the sea. She married the hunter Hoori and gave birth to a son, who in turn produced Emperor Jimmu, the first Emperor of Japan. After giving birth, she turned into a dragon and flew away.

This is what Wikipedia (the english version) says. "she turned into a dragon and flew away" fits well with the effect of returning back to your hand.

The funny thing, however, is the following, as written on german Wikipedia.
Japanese women think it would be ashaming if others heard their sounds they make while using the toilet. Some 30 years ago they used to flush the toiled constantly so no one would hear their...whatever sounds.
As this was an enormous waste of water and information campaigns didn't show a notable effect, a little advice was invented.
The function: it makes the sound of flushing a toilet.
The result: 20 liters of water saved every time the toilet is used.
The name: Otohime.
In this german article i read that the name translates to "princess of sound" or "sound princess"...

THAT makes me laugh whenever I see this card.
