Well, I never knew that. But I have a question about this same topic:
Can I summon a monster (archfiend soldier) and then use Pot of Greed before they
can activate Torrential Tribute???

Ok what about Ultimate Offerings?

Can I summon a monster let's say a Cannon Soldier, and use my priority to pay 500 LP for an already open UO to summon a monster even if my opponent responds with a TT?

The chain then becoming
Step 1 = UO
Step 2 = TT

Resolve

TT destroys all monsters on the field
Then a monster is summoned via UO?

There are two ways it can happen:

First, if you claim you wished to use priority and didn't pass, then you activate UO paying your 500 LP. Your opponent could then activate Torrential Tribute in chain to UO in response to the summon of Cannon Soldier (although, more likely, they would wait for you to do the summon and then activate Torrential Tribute). In this instance, it would go as you said.

If, however, you passed priority and your opponent activates Torrential Tribute and in chain to that you activate Ultimate Offering, paying your 500 LP, then UO will resolve first, putting a monster on the field followed by Torrential Tribute destroying all monsters on the field.

This is why you need to be very clear about when you are passing your priority. A judge would more likely favor the second interpretation (or the extended one of the first) because it is more likely that an opponent is seeking to destroy all the monsters rather than let you have a monster on your field all by yourself.
