Might I ask why you decided on "Ignition Effect"?

ANSWER:
It's the most accurate translation of the Japanese term.

"Cost Effect" was always a misnomer, since many of these effects (like "Barrel
Dragon") don't involve a cost at all. It was getting to be a real pain in the
neck explaining that "Cost Effect" didn't involve costs.

This was a legacy issue of the original translation team. It should never have
been called "Cost Effect" in the first place. And we have now fixed the problem.

This makes me wonder if they're going to rename "Multi-Trigger" effects as well since that has nothing to do with Trigger Effects but rather just seemed to be nothing more than a Cost... er Ignition effect that can be done during your opponent's turn.
 
its just a cooler sounding name with out using the term cost.

I still fail to see what's wrong with "activated" myself. That's what I used to call effects like that. I've NEVER referred to "Barrel Dragon" as having a Cost Effect, since you're certainly not paying anything.

Guess that's why I haven't taken the LV2 test yet. I would obviously fail miserably.

d_x: "Multi-Trigger" will now become "MSD". (If you're a gearhead, you'll know what that stands for and how it relates to "Ignition") :D
 
As Kevin said, "Ignition Effect" is the most accurate way of translating the Japanese term for that type effect.

Additionally, this is important to note: It was either change to "Ignition Effect," or not change at all and keep it as "Cost Effect." Konami wouldn't let us change to anything else. Most likely, "Ignition" is the term that Kevin and the designers of the game decided upon together.

Given that choice, I'm satisfied enough that we changed the name to something that wasn't misleading, since not all Cost Effect monsters actually have a cost associated with the activation of their effect.
