Seems the thread's been closed now. But it's certainly a good point.
I don't at all like these new "even more rare!" rarities (Ultimate & Ghost) they've introduced to make them seem cooler.
I also don't like the vast number of Secret Rare cards in sets nowadays. There should only be 1 or 2 per set, max.. And these cards they're adding in to the TCG should have their rarities scaled according to how good they are, NOT default to Secret Rare and maybe make a couple slightly more common (i.e. Ultra).
Ideally the sets would go through a screening process and their cards be scaled in rarity according to how good they are, NOT based on whether Jaden Yuki uses it. It should also be more balanced too, so that every single half-useful card is NOT Ultra Rare or higher. Have they considered that if the signature cards are easier to get, more kids might get into the game? "I'm gonna throw down my Elemental Hero Flame Swords- I mean, Wingman!" "Yeah? Me too!" C'mon, it'd be great fun for the kids. Meanwhile, competitive players have easy access to some interesting cards used in properly themed Decks (like the aforementioned E/D/Evil Heroes), and it's a bit harder to get the more general cards. Of course, actual powerful cards should be rarer anyway (e.g. Vennominaga, half the DARK cards in this new set coming soon).
But we all know that won't happen, unfortunately. I personally think completely rejigging the rarities according to their usefulness and strength would make the game more popular, and ultimately more profitable (because that's what UDE likes). Perhaps release a "TAEV Alternate" pack (and similar for the other sets) about a month after the actual series, which includes mega rare versions of the cards featured in the series (3 cards per pack or something stupid like that, because they can), so that people can get their favourite cards in shiny form. That's what I'd do.
But no. The best we can hope for is an Alternate set to be released with more common versions of most of the Secret Rare cards (useful ones and/or otherwise). Or more Structure Decks (or Western-unique premade Decks called Advanced Decks) which feature some of these mega rare cards.
I'll be quiet now.
