Shhhhh. A card whose name may only be spoken whispers, ahem I mean, today's card is none than the Silent Magician LV4's promoted form: Silent Magician LV8.

Ok, first of all, like all final LV monsters that are LV7 or greater, its a nomi monster. It cannot hit the field under circumanstances other than through the special summon requirement and through the effect of Level Up!. Once it goes, its gone. And with good reason, such LV monsters tend to be very powerful in stats and effect and the Silent Magician LV8 is no exception.

At 3500, few monsters would dare go head to head with him. And its quite difficult for the opponent to respond to. Its effect protects it from ALL spell cards controlled by the opponent. He yawns at Lightning Vortex/Raigeki (depending on format). He shakes his head at Swords of Light and he'll laugh in your opponent's face for trying Brain control or some other control switching card. Traps and monster effects are the only way to take it out because I doubt the opponent will carry enough fire power to beef up his currently standing monsters up to match its strength. And if he uses traps (or monsters effects) that means possibly waiting a turn just to get ready to take it out.

Weakness? Besides being a nomi monster that can only special summon under a rather difficult condition, it doesn't really have any other monsters don't suffer from. It does however has a pitiful DEF of 1000. Tsukuyomi will kick him while he's down with her effect. Heck, Gravekeeper assailant will take him out if Necrovalley is on the field. Book of Moon is also a problem. Traps that switch monsters to def mode, as well (i.e. Curse of Anubis, Zero gravity). Keep him in ATK mode and that's one problem solved.

Next issues are really things all decks should be able to deal with but a deck designed to bring him out especially needs to address these problems. He may be protected from spells but he's easy pickings for traps. Carry trap negators. Monster-wise I'd say monsters like Pitch-Black Warwolf. Many traps tend to activate during the Battle phase. Jinzo too but try to make sure the opponent already wasted all their monster control switching cards. Jinzo may not be strong enough to take it out but at 2400, it doesn't leave too much for the opponent to beef up for it to go head to head with Silent Magician.

Best bet is My Body as a shield. This card should be a must. I wouldn't mind paying 1500 to keep a monster like this on the field. They ain't getting control of it unless they carry Brain jacker and they sure heck aren't gonna beat it in battle.

Best deck type? Well one is the one we've been discussing this week. Spell counter deck. Carry Royal magicial librarys because I would want to keep on drawing and thining my deck so I can get to those Level Up!'s.

In the traditional format, odds are this card will not see the light of day. At least not unless you use Level Up because I doubt LV4 will last long enough in this format to get five spell counters (I sure as heck wouldn't want to wait around for that). With the enovys around, the opponent doesn't even need to battle it. 2.5/5

In advance format, this guy will be brutal if you can keep on the field. Spells are one of the easiest way to deal with monsters and he's protected against that. Take care of monsters and traps effects and this guy will plow through anything that gets thrown its way. 3.75/5

Yeah, Compuslory is definitely a problem.

Yes! I can't believe I forgot about Final Attack Orders. That will DEFINITELY solve your problems as far Tsukuyomi is concerned. Here's the ruling:

While "Final Attack Orders" is active, if you attack a face-down Defense Position monster, the monster is changed to Attack Position, then damage calculation is applied with the monster in Attack Position.

Hell, I did this in a casual duel. My friend had absolute shock on his face when he luanched his Patrician of Darkness at my face down DEF mode Blowback Dragon and then Necrofear at my face down DEF mode Reflect Bounder while this card was on the field to find out they switch to ATK mode before damage calculation went through. This card is cruel and with a monster like Silent Magician LV8 just down right wrong.
