Strike Ninja question

I've heard this both way's now and I just want to know the the real ruling on this situation.

I'm playing a Strike Ninja deck, and I have 2 D.D. scout planes in the graveyard and 1 strike ninja on the field. My opponent summons a berserk gorilla and attacks my strike Ninja.

Here's my questio, if I use Strike Ninja's effect to remove it from play does a reply occur or not? I've heard arguements both ways. On the on hand the number of monster has changed, but in the rulebook it said if the number of monsters changes by the effect of a spell or trap card i.e. call of the haunted or compulsary evactuation device.

The number of monsters on your side of the field changed so a replay would occur. The rulebook tends to overlook the fact that there are multi-trigger monster effects that can change the number of monsters on your side of the field.
