The Puppet Magic of Dark Ruler LOD-EN013

The Puppet Magic of Dark Ruler
Normal Spell

Select 1 Fiend-Type monster from your Graveyard. Remove monsters on your side of the field from play whose total Level Stars exactly equal the Level of the selected Fiend-Type monster. Then Special Summon the selected monster from your Graveyard.

"¢ Removing monsters on your side of the field from play is not a cost, so the opponent must decide if they want to chain before you select which monsters are to be removed. If they chain a card that negates the effect of "The Puppet Magic of Dark Ruler" you do not remove any monsters.

"¢ Face-down monsters may be removed from your side of the field.

Archfiendgeneral, no worries, I gotcha today. Ahh, who said fiends didn't have enough recursion. Puppet Magic is an excellent card for Fiend decks, especially one that focus on thr RFP pile. Anyway, one of the most innovative comboes with this card, as demonstrated on me by Densetsu_x, is Sangan/Emissary of the Afterlife + Metamorphosis + The Puppet Magic of Dark Ruler in an Exodia deck. Summon/set Sangan/Emissary, play Metamorphosis on it, summoning a Fusion monster of the SAME level, get it now? I'll continue. Pull your exodia piece. Then play Puppet Magic, remove the Fusion, re-summon Sangan/Emissary. This shows how truly skilled Densetsu_x is. ;)

anyway, i'll add to the review as I get time.
Overall (in Fiend or Exodia deck): 4.45/5

Yes, Puppet Magic is one of those cards that seems awkward up front, but is really powerful. The other thing to note is that the mosnter on the field DOESN'T have to be a fiend, only the card being revived from the graveyard, which adds to the fun when you Brain Jack/Enemy Control your opponents monster.

My favorite combo comes from my Pulverizing Anvils deck that focuses on getting your monsters face down. Tribute summon your Mefist on the field for a Byser Shock. Bam, all face down cards are returned to the owner's hand, saving you from pesky traps. Then play the magic, using Byser as a tribute to revive your Mefist from the graveyard. Now you can take a swing at your opponent and hopefully thin their hand a smidge. 8^D

There was one Gren Maju design I had where I needed to retrieve Gren from the Grave. I managed to play a Night Assailant in face up attack. My opponent thought I was nuts till I activated Puppet Magic of Dark Ruler.

Using it with Snatch Steal is a meany mean manuever. Try giving them Lava Golem. On the next turn, you can Puppet Magic it away (with the aid of Snatch Steal) to bring an exhausted Necrofear back, or Invader of Darkness. Endless uses for recursive cards. Therefore, in a fiend design, it only becomes more apparent that some RFP effects are useful.
