Unfortunately nope, it's not true, Archfiend of Gilfer's effect is optional, meaning it has to be the very very very last thing to happen, in this case:
you send with Woodland -> Gilfer (this is the time to activate it's effect, but you can't because Woodland's effect hasn't finished resolving yet) -> inflict damage.
