Tristan: "Because in the future, card games will be played on motorbikes."
Yugi: "THAT is the stupidest thing that's ever come out of your mouth. Card games on motorbikes! COME ON!" - YGO:TAS Ep. 27.

A clip from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D, for however long it's up on YouTube. Looks like in the future, everyone is from the cast of Battle of the Planets.

5Ds sucks ass as there are only 3 characters and teh show is 10 episodes into it.

Cops that let you go if you beat them in a duel, riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Yuusei slits Aki's throat with his Roadrunner card.

Cop - Halt, this is the police.
Yuusei - I didn't kill her officer, I swear. I'll duel you prove my innocence.
Cop - Deal.

We're talking about a society that thinks card gaming is enhanced by playing it on a motorcycle. Heck, where talking about society that watches card gaming while played on motorcycles. I bet the cops don't even eat donuts.

I hope this series doesn't kill the card game, both in terms of it being utterly idiotic and in it resulting in a whole load of nonsense cards.

It's my impression that completely new Deck themes are being created now, i.e. are not simply copies of cards invented in the anime for the sake of "now you can have your favourite character's card!". Themes like Gladiator Beasts, Batterymen and Frogs, which are all interesting, and help bring the game along. With this new series, the cards released will go back to whatever's shown in the anime. The game's already been revamped to include the Tuner and Synchro Monsters, which is a significant overhaul (i.e. the Fusion Deck now has a new purpose).

To be fair, I don't know if these cards (Tuner/Synchro) were already planned for the card game, and are simply highlighted in the anime as the latest trendy thing for the kids (like Fusion Monsters were for GX).

The point is, though, that this new series might yield a bunch of bad cards, leading to what I call the "Neo-Spacian effect" (hundreds and hundreds of support cards, but none are that good), which will lower the number of cards in a set that can be used for good things (i.e. cards unrelated to the anime).

Just my opinion (that the Neo-Spacian support cards are all sub-par), of course.

If this does happen, I'm sure I'll be ignoring most of the anime-originating cards for my Deck Masters.

One might argue that you just described the original series.

That is true, but at least the original series is what got the vast majority of the players into the game to begin with. What has the other series done to attract players to the game? Not much that I can tell.

I'm with Maruno, me and most of the people I play with are just going to ignore most of the new stuff coming out and play as we always have. We have no desire to start playing tuner or synchro stuff. I might get into it, if they give me a motorbike to play on. :p

The original series introduced the card game at all. And most Decks had pretty much no theme - Yugi's Deck contained Spellcasters and Warriors, which a whole load of other random cards too. In comparison, Yaden Yuki's Deck has what must be 200 Elemental Hero- and Neo-Spacian-related cards, many of which do very specific things ("You activating that monster effect that makes me discard 2 cards activated my Trap! Now I pay 417 'points', move a few cards around on the field, and sacrifice my Elemental Hero Generic in 2 turns, so that I can then fuse my Neos with my Monster Reborn."). It's because of that specificness that those cards are poor.

I've had a look through the next set (The Duelist Genesis), and yes, they have about 3 new Spirit Monsters, but they introduce a new monster Type (Psychic), which is sure never to catch on. That and the Synchro monsters just makes this set a bad move, especially considering the goodness we've been having recently. Frankly, aside from a couple of support cards from older themes, there's nothing interesting here. Any guesses on how many cards will be changed to Secret Rares in this set?

I wonder if any of the 5Ds characters will use STUVWXYZ-Dragon Catapult Omega Cannon.

And Vennominaga. Seems only the relatively minor characters (background characters or character-of-the-day people) get either the interesting cards or really pathetic French cuisine/tennis/theatre-related nonsense cards. Pegasus had some good Toon cards when he showed up again in the second season, but they're likely not to come around.

I haven't seen whatever season the Venom monsters appear in, so I don't know how minor the guy was.

Well at lesat 5Ds has built a plot by episode 7, which is something GX failed to do in its first 130 episodes. However, I keep waiting for someone to say, "Hey, now you are just making that rule up!"
