A Question about The Tricky

I think that as a cost, it would have read "Discard 1 card. Special Summon this card from your hand." That should still be the case unless the templating has changed.

I would have to argee with Digital Jedi. The way it was worded was throwing me off. See, I was thinking along the same lines, but I knew it would probably be a cost, otherwise Dark World would have some more support...

One thing you should remember is this. There is no proper wording on the cards that clearly shows what is and is not a cost. Never use grammar as a basis for rulings but always use common sense. If in doubt ask. Thats why we're here.

What Emerald said. Although recently, I've noticed two trends in the wordings that suggest a Cost: "By <doing this>, <do that>" and "(You can) <do this> to <do that>". This isn't around in all cases, though, but it's a hint.

Lack of a proper card text convention is really annoying at times.

But with that said, the original templating for costs was "Do this-Period" with the next sentence being the reward of what the first sentence paid for. This was the way we used to distinguish the two.

Using Dark Grepher (another new card) as an reference, it would surely be a cost:

Dark Grepher
Effect Monster (Warrior / DARK / 4 Stars / ATK 1700 / DEF 1600)
You can discard 1 Level 5 or higher DARK monster to Special Summon this card from your hand. Once per turn, you can discard 1 DARK monster to send 1 DARK monster from your Deck to the Graveyard.
