if i had lord of D on the field and i attack with one of my dragons does Adhesive Explosive get its effect or does it get negated beacuse it turns into a spell card that designates a dragon.

Lord of D

As long as this card remains face-up on the field, all Dragon-Type monsters cannot be targeted by Spell Cards, Trap Cards, or effects of monsters that designate a target.

I would think that Adhesive Explosive would still get it's effect as it does not target dragons specifically, only the monster that attacks it. I do know that it still equips to Horus LV6 but does not destroy LV6 because it is unaffected by Spell cards.

Whether or not a card that is unaffected by spell cards or can negate spell cards isn't the point. "Lord of D." doesn't negate anything, nor does he make Dragon-Type monsters immune to all spells.

"Adhesive Explosive" is an effect monster that is trying to select a Dragon-Type monster for its effect. It doesn't select its target like "Brain Jacker", it selects it's target like "Kiseitai", which has an effect that affects "the attacking monster" like "Sakuretsu Armor" or "Magical Cylinder"--both of which target the attacking monster. "Lord of D." makes it impossible for Dragon-Type monsters to be the target of ANY effect--Spell, Trap OR monster effect.

Brain Jacker targets because you get to select which monster to take control of, Kisetai and Adhesive Explosive do no such thing.

Targeting effects must select a target. Not have one handed to them on a plate.

If you place an order at a restaurant, for a steak dinner, that is what you would expect to receive, so when it comes, it's no suprise.

If you get a menu, then 5 minutes later you get a bowl of soup, you didnt ask for the soup, but that's what you got instead of the steak.

In the first example, you selected your meal before you received it, which is an indication that you "targeted" Steak.

The second example, your meal was selected for you before you received it, which is an indication that you did not have a choice as to what you would select, therefore non-targeting.

thing is kyhotae try looking at it like this. They cant choose who attacks. And if you cant specifically choose which monster is attacking then you cant be seen to be targeting said monster.

With Sakuretsu Armor and Magic Cylinder they are activated in response to the declaration of an attack of a specific monster thereby targeting in that respect

wow. Feels like Im on one of the other sites all of a sudden. :(

With Sakuretsu Armor, I admit, I (at first) used to view it the same. You could view it as targetting in the sense that you, the controller, have the option of when to activate it. Sure, it only has the option of destroying the attacking monster, but you have the option of deciding when to activate it at all.

With Kiseitai and Adhesive Explosive, you do not have the option to flip the card up and activate the effect. Once it is attacked, it has to be turned face up. That's just the way the game works (barring Sasuke-like effects). The effect is automatically activated, and forced into choosing the monster that attacked it (during resolution).

No food analogies please. I missed breakfast.

but food helps us all understand. just like when explaining atk power to someone. i use the analogy this weak monster throws a pie. This strong monster throws a roasted pigs foot

oh, black pudding, or can I get the whole breakfast, like at Roaches? You do know I live in Guatemala, right? Getting an authentic Irish breakfast is nigh impossible.

God, I would KILL for a sausage roll right about now. Like about 5 of the small ones. *drrroooolll*
