Today's Card of the Day for Saturday, July 16th, 2005 is Elephant Statue of Disaster, a common from Ancient Sanctuary. It's gotten some use lately after probably being thrown into many shoeboxes when it first came out. So why use it now? Well hey, that's what I'm here for.
Really, no one is using it for it's stats. Ok, 3 Stars and 1500 ATK gets under all forms of stall, and EARTH has lots of support while Rock has recently added some support as well. An EARTH rush deck could be conceivable here, but it's effect is why it's used.
"When this card is sent directly from your hand to the Graveyard by an effect of a card controlled by your opponent, inflict 2000 points of damage to your opponent's Life Points."
"by an effect of a card controlled by your opponent." Namely...
- Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End
- Delinquent Duo
- Last Turn (especially this one)
So your opponent pays 1000 points to activate Delinquent Duo. No problem, cause one of the cards is this. Now they're out 3000 points instead. Very nice.
The best use for this though is anti-Last Turn. Your opponent activates Last Turn, you have this in your hand and you win before the cards are even summoned. Just make sure you say thanks.
Personally, I find this card to be too situational. Sure, it definitely has it's advantages, but it has to be in your hand first of all. Secondly, if it's in your hand any other time it's just taking up space. Go ahead and use it if Last Turn decks are big in your area, but otherwise why bother?
2.5/5 - It does something, just not enough if you ask me.
Summary: 2 in a Side Deck is probably the way to go, and they both come in when you see Last Turn coming.
