having a little trouble at when barrel behind the door can be activated. is it when effect damage is actually taking place? or can be actiavted before the actual effect damage takes place? 2 questions really.

when my opponent activates Chaos Emperor Dragon's effect, do i activate barrel behind the door before all the all the cards are sent to the graveyard?

also, can i flip summon my dice jar and then activate barrel behind the door to ensure that i won't get damage just incase i may fail to roll the dice higher than my opponent?

"Barrel Behind the Door" can ONLY be activated in response to when an effect that will definately inflict damage is activated.

I would STRONGLY suggest you go and read the official UDE FAQ on "Barrel Behind the Door" since all your questions would be answered there, rather than merely reprint the whole list here.

If you want a really simplified version, here is the ruling on Barrel Behind the Door:

1. Barrel Behind the Door is a Counter-Trap, and hence it abides all the rules of Counter-Traps
2. BBtD can be activated only when a non-continuous effect that definitely will deal damage to you is activated, not when it resolves. Hence you activate it when Chaos Emperor's effect is activated. The latter part tells the answer to your last part of the question, as Dice Jar does not know to whom it will deal damage to, and hence BBtD cannot be activated. Also BBtD cannot be used againt Wave-Motion Cannon, as it is a continuous Spell Card. BBtD cannot be used against Continuous effects.
