Berserk Dragon DCR-EN019

Berserk Dragon
Effect Monster (Zombie / DARK / 8 Stars / ATK 3500 / DEF 0)

This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by the effect of "A Deal with Dark Ruler". This card can attack all monsters on your opponent's side of the field once each. Decrease the ATK of this card by 500 points during the End Phase of each of your turns.

"¢ "Berserk Dragon" cannot be Normal Summoned or Set, and cannot be Special Summoned EXCEPT by the effect of "A Deal with Dark Ruler". So "Berserk Dragon" cannot be Special Summoned with "Monster Reborn", etc., even if Special Summoned properly first.

"¢ If "Berserk Dragon" is removed from play with "Interdimension Matter Transporter", you cannot try to resolve "Berserk Dragon"'s effect before it returns to play; you must return it to play first and then it loses 500 ATK.

"¢ While "Skill Drain" is active, "Berserk Dragon"'s effects are negated. But "Berserk Dragon"'s effect doesn't count turns, so if "Skill Drain" was active for 4 turns, and is then destroyed, do not reduce "Berserk Dragon"'s ATK for those 4 turns.

"¢ [Re: A Deal with Dark Ruler] You can only Special Summon 1 monster with "A Deal with Dark Ruler", but you can activate 2 copies of "A Deal with Dark Ruler" to Special Summon 1 "Berserk Dragon" for each, even if only 1 Level 8 or higher monster was sent to the Graveyard.

"¢ [Re: Skill Drain] When a monster's ATK or DEF are changed by its own effect, like "Slate Warrior" or "Berserk Dragon", and "Skill Drain" is activated, that monster's effect is negated and the ATK/DEF are returned to normal. Even if "Skill Drain" is then destroyed, the old adjustment to ATK/DEF does not come back. Any bonuses or penalties are lost when "Skill Drain" effect is applied, and you have to start over from the beginning.

Alright, the underappreciated terror that is Berserk Dragon. We begin Nomi week with a card that I honestly like a lot.

This card obvious comboes with A Deal with Dark Ruler, because otherwise, you can't summon it. However, I love how this card comboes with Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys. You want the Phoenix to die, so it will be easy and not very costly to summon Berserk Dragon. It also comboes well with Meteorain since it will attack every monster, and with 3500 ATK, that will definately hurt.

This card has some good stuff going for it. First off, it's Dark, so Chaos likes it. Also, the 8-star for A Deal with Dark Ruler only has to be sent. If you tribute BLS-EotB for Metamorphosis, you can play A Deal with Dark Ruler and bust out Berserk Dragon. This card also can completely ruin your opponent's Scapegoats.

This card, however, is a nomi monster, so that hurts it immediately. Also, 0 DEF makes it Tsuku-vulnerable, so be wary of that when using it.

When using Berserk Dragon, clear their back row if at all possible and try to ahve something along the lines of a Big Bang Shot ready for Berserk Dragon. A 3900 ATK monster with piercing that can attack every mosnter they have is rather nasty.

This card belongs in decks that focus around getting an 8-star or higher monster out (not BLS, it's too situational there). In those decks, this card will usually hit the field.

Advanced: 4/5
Traditional: 4.25/5 There's far more mass removal here.
Sealed Pack: 1/5 Only 4 monsters that'll trigger it, I think.
Limited: 1/5

I think it's safe to say that out of all of the nomi monsters, this one was probably used the least. Berserk Dragon is hard to get out, but I think that its effect and stats are rather good"¦ Just my opinion, but when used by someone who knows what he's doing, Berserk Dragon is really a huge threat. Granted, overall, it's not the best card out there, and only works well in a deck that can get out 8-star (or higher) monsters quickly (Koitsu or Dark Necrofear anyone?), it still can have effectiveness.

Berserk Dragon can easily get rid of all of your opponent's monsters, what with 3500 ATK, and if it can trample, your opponent's Scapegoats are going to seriously be hurting. Reverse Trap can also make all of the difference after so many standby phases. Imagine activating that when Berserk Dragon's ATK is down to 0 (if it's on the field that long). Yes, 7000 ATK. Also, getting out two (or three) Berserk Dragons by activating two A Deal with Dark Ruler when one 8-star or higher monster is destroyed is really efficient.

If you have Berserk Dragon out on the field, you can attack all of your opponent's monsters with it, and its ATK will probably be high enough to destroy all of them, and then proceed to attack directly with Berserk Dragon AND all of your other monsters. That, I would say, is extreme Life Point (and field) advantage against your opponent. (Especially with two or more Berserk Dragons "“ OTK there)

Still, being a nomi that has a rather arduous cost makes this monster a liability for you at times too. And losing 500 ATK points each Standby Phase makes this monster less and less useful each turn. After about four or so turns, if it's still on the field, it becomes easier to destroy as a result of a battle, and Tsukuyomi and Book of Moon just totally annihilate this card, what with 0 DEF. A Deal with Dark Ruler also can't be activated in the damage step, and that really hurts this monster's summoning ability.

If you do decide to use this beast, I'd try making sure that you can activate two A Deal with Dark Ruler at the same time just to summon them out quicker. Using 8-star + monsters like Koitsu, Dark Necrofear, and others (BLS?) that are easy to summon is really useful, especially since you can destroy the aforementioned two as Spell Cards and still activate A Deal with Dark Ruler. Even Mind Controlling your opponent's 8-star (BLS) and destroying it with a card like Tribute to The Doomed or something can do the trick. Oh, and Reverse Trap.

The obvious best deck for this is its own, as with 95% of all nomi monsters. Maybe a Fiend/Chaos deck where you can summon Necrofear and BLS.

Ratings:
Advanced: 3/5. I'm being a bit generous here, since I like it and think it's powerful. Still, it has disadvantages that are just bad.
Traditional: 1.5/5. Nomis and Traditional are like oil and water.
Limited: 2/5. If you get Shinato, Zorc, Despair, and/or Mirage Knight and can make a deck out of it, more power to you. Zorc can destroy himself (sometimes) so, hey, there's a thing for you...
Sealed: 1.5/5. Umm"¦ If you get 8-stars I guess, but"¦ meh"¦

Great Reveiws, I love this beast its won me so many duels. I run a blue-eyes deck with 3 level 8s when they finaly get destroyed this guy comes out and beats you up. Once I got Berserk Dragon out played Meteorain right on my mates Scapegoats lol. Excellent
