Bringer of Doom
Ok so ive been getting a little into podcasts and podcasting and am working on my own should have it out in the next couple of weeks. I was looking around and i couldnt find anything for CCGs except for a podcast from wizards of the coast and their magic the gathering game. Has loads of stuff from championships and stuff. Seemed interesting. Was just wondering if anyone thought it might be an idea to maybe start something like that for yugioh VS duel masters or even our own take on magic. Sound interesting?

We've discussed the possibility before yes....the problem seems to be people who have the time to put such a podcast together. If you have one that you feel worthy of distributing by all means let us know, we'd love to look it over.

I actually do have the time to put together a podcast. The only problem is I don't have the system or "equipment" to do it. I've thought of personally doing this over PC games that I play, like ARC, Continuum, Total Annihiltion, and Diablo 2. However, it could be benefiting to do some for YGO. I just don't have the necessary things to actually do it; otherwise I would.

Yes, our biggest problem with tis was getting people who had the time to come up with one. I know I would have been all over this I didn't already jump on every project that EGI throws out there. :p But this one struck me as having a steeper learning curve. I one day want to do a genre podcast or cable acces show. But the time and money have always been the biggest obsticle for me.

Other then a digital camera that takes movies, you probably don't need much else. The software often comes with most people's computers nowadays. I know when I bought this one it had a fairly detailed editing software, although I already had Macromedia Director as gift from my wife's ex (of all people). I still haven't taken the time to really learn the program though. (Still dragging my heels on learning Flash too)

You don't need a digital camera for podcasting. All you need at the bare minimum is an audio recording device. Video taping yourself reading from a piece of paper at a computer is boring to look at. It's much more effective to make a YGO podcast into something that a person can listen to while surfing the web without eating up computer resources in the process. Personally I really don't think people care what you look like so I don't see the purpose of providing them with video footage of your appearance.

But I still would like to do podcasting. I just wish I had some kind of audio recording device for my computer. I think it can handle it but I'm not really sure since it's like six years old. @_@

Reading from your desk? Gee, I always something more grandiose in mind. But them my mind always thinks Hollywood. :cool

tk whats your comps spec. if it can handle having a mic plugged in and can handle running something like audacity or castblater then you have everything you need. Audacity is free and castblaster costs money so whichever you choose is up to you. Thats all a podcast needs.

Dj..... Video podcasts are tough to get done and looking good. nice idea but yeah it would be better if it were something like just reviewing certain cards or doing discussions on rules questions or even discuss deck builds. Maybe if there was some kind of set somewhere and ya turned it into some kind of talkshow it might work but as it is its boring seeing people sit there and discuss things.

Oh I see. I always had an EXTRA/Insider/Game Spot/Current Affair-type thing in mind. But like I said. I always think big. :D

LOL That reminds me of the opening to all the Star Wars novels. They start with the theme song and then go into the text before it's finished playing. Have you considered adding sound effects?

I might. Just dont have any good ones and im not bothered getting anything special for the first episode. Maybe later in the series.

Sure why not. i can cheat the whole 10 minute limit thing on castblaster and load them up in that and play then from that while im doing stuff and record them into audacity that way. That way theres less editting when im finished recording.

Sure man email them to me. Cheers

Emailing the zip file didn't work. I've emailed you download link instead. Apparently there are more sound effects in the file then I thought. Applause, laser blasts, gun shots, screams, computer noises, rips, tears, booms, it's all pretty concise. Man, I collected those years ago and didn't realize I had so many till just now. I may have to start collecting again. :D

I don't remember the specs off the top of my mind right now. I'd have to give you those over AIM when I get home from the college. If by mic you mean head set, then I believe my computer could do audio podcasts then. But I'll say that I have neither heard or have audacity and castblater.

However, a couple of things that are preventing me from pursuing this is not having the necessary software/equipment and a quiet enough area to conduct a smooth sounding piece of work. Where my current desktop PC is located is in my basement. But I do feel that I could request my family to not go down into the basement during the podcasting sessions; which if I did this would roughly be weekly.

One thing I've noticed is a nice catchy introduction song to podcast episodes. If any of you have heard of the person called "Gaming Steve" would notice how professionally done his audio podcasts are done. I would use a similar format method in doing mine, since I hate not planning for something like this.

Keep in mind that Gaming Steve's podcasts are usually over 45 minutes. On average his podcasts are about an hour long. So I figure that if I can cover 30-45 minutes of information that it could be a very benefiting service. You should also note that I'm not a part of EGI.

So EmeraldDragon, I'll get back to you on my desktop PC's specs. What in particular are you wanting to know? Memory? HD size? Operating software? Processor? If those are some of the questions you need answers to, then I can give those to you right now.

512 MGs of RAM, 40 G HD, Win 98, and Intel Pentium 3.

I do have a question about podcast storaging. Do these audio podcast files take up a lot of HD space? I don't exactly have a lot of spare storage space on my 40 G HD. =/

Well those specs seem ok to me. What speed is the p3? If its at least a gig then it should be fine.

And since when did being a member of EGI have anything to do with it? Im not an EGI member.

Shouldnt take up more than say 100 megs unedited then afterwards say about 40-50 megs average. You could always lower the quality slightly to reduce space usage. Also if you listen to adam currys podcasts its not really a big deal about background noise or interruptions just work them into the script somehow.

I think the p3 is around 800ish in speed. Yeah, that sounds about right.

If podcasts take up that much space uneditted, then I need to redo my machine, install Win XP, and install my 160G HD.

You should also add a cleanup program besides the one that comes with XP. Something like CleanUp! or CCleaner. They will maximize the amount of space you have by gigabytes.

Hmm, never heard of either one of those pieces of software. After I redo my system at home, when I get Win XP, I'll see if my brother will let me use a portion of his personal storage network server for this.

I need to know if this requires any particular hardware. Um, I wonder if a head set would count -- mine I got for $10 bucks and you pay for what you get as they say. =P

Just the thought of actually getting the ability to do audio podcasting already makes me feel like writing up some scripts for the first two or three episodes. =)

I'm really just worried about a catchy introduction song and sound capability. =/
