Cockiness issue

Let's say I'm playing with Fred. Fred is nice enough, but he does tend to get a bit too confident while playing, in that he'll draw a card and show it to me, just because he wants to. He'll do the same when setting cards on the field (showing me a "Wall of Illusion" before Setting it, for example).

I was wondering what the Rules and Regulations were on this kind of behaviour. Since it is certainly only putting me at an advantage by knowing his cards, it's not a strategy that'll help him. However, he wants to do it. Is he allowed to show me whatever cards he wants, even though he doesn't have to? Surely it can't be against the rules, can it?

Are you required to report the incident to the judge? What if you don't mind your opponent doing this because it gives you an advantage. Do both of you get penalized for playing the game this way?

If you are caught and have not reported it, yes, you can get penalized by the judge. Among other things, this falls under bad sportsmanship and, depending on the situation, could be construed as cheating.

I would start this off as Unsportsman Conduct Minor, which is a warning. If the player continous to show his cards ignores the warning, I would escalate it to Unsportsman Conduct Major, which is a Match Loss. I would also let him know that if it continues he could be disqualified. However, I would suspect the Match Loss would wake him up to how serious this is.

John said it right, put the player up against someone who he feels he can beat. Let him play that way somemore, and have that player just take him to school. Had that happen last weekend.

I have a guy who is a great player, but his attitude needs work. He's always saying he can't be beat, well, thanx to Mantis, and a good friend I know with about the same Ranking as the first player, showed up and played. HEHE, Mantis actually paired the 2 up in Round 1. No, I did nothing to assist it. Just lucky I guess, anyway, needless to say, my friend took 'LoudMouth' to school and beat him in 5 minutes. 6800/0 & 8000/0. Totally schooled him. 'LoudMouth' proceeded to drop out of the tournament and stormed out of the front door. I don't expect to see him back for awhile, as he finally realized he isn't all that.

*Chuckles to self* I still think it's funny. Saved me all the Warnings/Penalties Procedures. Every situation has something to learn, whether it's the players learning it or the Judges that run the event. Always take what you learn and apply it.
