DAZ|Studio? Poser? Tell Me More...

why the merge to have Flash?
For the same reason that EGI, as a software company, is taking over a PTO territory. To expand the base of operations and get more money.

also, i never said the programs were out right crap, they are decent, their best thing for somebody that doesnt have the cash to spend on the more pricey programs. it takes a bit more time to do a few things but nothing is impossible.
Again, I disagree. It's not about what money you can afford, but what can do the job. I can absolutely put money on it that anyone on these forums with Max cannot do what I do in Poser or even "” I'd go so far to say "” in DAZ|Studio. And, I think I've proven over and again on these forums that I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is. ;)

This isn't about going for cheap. It's going for what is best. And Max is far from best for what this discussion started as. Remember that. It's neat to discuss what pricy application we all have. But that doesn't resolve the query here. Calling them "dummy applications" is a misnomer since they are far from that. If you want to spend $3500 [3D Studio Max] on an application to do less than I can do with free [DAZ|Studio] (or $250 [Poser 6]), by all means, let's give it a whirl and see what comes up. But, last I checked, not many individuals around here could afford to drop that kind of cash on a program to merely do figure studies. But I know a lot of people that have gotten it in other ways and still don't know how to use it properly.

terrogen, man i loved making landscapes on that thing. not to mention it was free.
I keep meaning to grab Terragen. It just slips my mind since I do so little landscaping at all.

my and most of my friends have the program. I stoped caring for 3d modeling in general, its good stuff, but not for me ;) atleast right now.

you ever head over www.3dtotal.com? that place has some nice stuff, i know they talk about poser often.

there is something else they talk about but im not sure, it has to do with wizards, or something, i forgot really.

but over all that place is nice for 3d stuff, again i dont do that stuff no more. I rather stick with 2d stuff and Audio/Video editing :)

Reason baby, that program is far better than Fruity Loops. :D but they both do the same, just one is insanely more expensive than the other.

i say if you cant get reason get loops. :D

Wow, something I can talk about... CuriousLabs Poser? Bryce? Progams I've used before!

Yeah, it's totally true, I suck at graphics. But there was a time I was involved with an online hobby that involved Poser characters that were made to be Professional Wrestlers. This hobby being of course the RPing world of eWrestling.

I did quite a few posers in the past so I can tell that the programs are very easy to use. Let me put it this way, I still have problem with my Photoshop program, but I knew my way around Poser 4 like the back of my hand.

Poser 5 I thought was a step backwards from 4, there really wasn't nothing you couldn't do once you added the Upgrade pack to Poser 4. The only thing Poser 5 has was more hair customization and that was basically it. You can get Poser 4 probably fairly cheap now since it's 2 versions back, but back a couple of years ago it was a $300 program.

Bryce is a program that integrates well with Poser. Bryce allows you to actually create 3D environments that you can place your Poser characters within. This program takes a lot more skill to use since it's more than just creating a person, but creating other objects.

You can find tutorials for any of them at Daz's website (yeah I still get emails from this place funny enough) at http://www.daz3d.com. There was a site back in the day that had other great resources (not sure if it's still around) but it was http://www.renderosity.com, you can check it out and see.

But yeah... that's basically the most information I can give you, they really are great programs to use for 3D design, too bad I don't have my copies of them anymore, I'd still be using them (or attempting to anyways).

kool, stuff huh. :D

were thinking on buying the $25,000 one and make some game mats at some point.

OHHH I knew photoshop cost a pretty penny but gosh. i got you I thought you meant 25000 just for the software not the all the equipment.

My uncle does printing, he owns his own company and I get free t shirts all the time.
he has about 10 of those 25000 things. And others as well.
That is a lot of money * DIES*

So Poser created characters can be inserted into Bryce landscapes? I would find that extremely usefiul.

Now, I've limited my usage Bryce to conserve processing power, but I was wondering if it is possible to create interiors with Bryce? You know, indoor scenes. I've tied alittle bit of that but as bishop memtioned, there are some lighhting issues.

try looking for some renderers, i know 3dsmax has this one render which i forgot the name of, i know its free too, does some really good stuff too.

Yup. Though it's easier from D|S to Bryce.

It's not impossible, just a bit more difficult than it really should be. I'm sure they will get it better as they continue to improve it. But the quality of renders still is quite superior than I ever thought it would be. I'm still impressed.

I'm noticing that DAZ has all these "expansion packs" that you can buy for varying prices. Is this essential for creating the character types you need or are these so called expansion packs something a person could do on thier own if they take the time?

no, not software, what renderer.

i know its cofusing it cought me off guard, but okay, i know that 3dsmax has seperate renderers.

like it has its generic render, then it has seperate renderer's like Brazil.

does bryce let you use seperate render plugs?

If it does, I don't have them. There is a big roller ball in the main menu and three little balls around it. Clicking one of the little ones fully renders the wireframe image in the window in whatever camera angle it's in. From there you can save it as a jpg or whathaveyou.

ill ask a friend of mine next time i see him if bryce can use seperate renders.

Brazil does a realy nice job on 3dMax.

so i was wondering.

i know there is Vray, MentalRay etc.. all thosue are seperate renders and sometimes give different results.

The big issue for me is if I can do interiors. I would really like to be able to do insides of space craft or even just plain old house/apt interiors. I've seen a few computer rendered homes, but they were somewhat lame and I don't know what program made them. But I figured it was just a matter of the artists ability and not the program itself. Anyone know of a program that let's you make interiors?

i know people model interiors. but i dont know of a program that automatically creates an interior.

and if there is (most likely) then you usually have to give credit to The Creators of the interior, since its not really your (hand made) object to begin with.

Well, thats what I mean. I'm not looking for pre-made interiors. I'm looking for something that can let me build rooms, oficess, banquet halls, mall, possibly even spacecraft interiors. The same way Bryce let's you build landscapes.

Sorry for being a little pesky last couple of days, but I was still wondering if there was a program or plug in that let me create background intriors for charatcers created in poser or DAZ? :)

When you say home interiors, how ornate are you looking for? Just the shell and staircases? Plumbing fixtures? Cabinetry? Moldings? Wall paper? Textures?.....give me a little more info. and I can point you in the right direction.

Something along the lines that I could apply the image to a comic book and give it believable lighting. Even if the lighting isn't precise, or non-existant, as long as I can choose the camera angles and create the room to my whims (to a cetain extant anyway) then it's what I would need.
