Dice Jar PGD-027

Light/Rock/3/200/300
FLIP: Both players roll a six-sided die once. The player with the lowest result takes Direct Damage equal to his/her opponent's result X 500 Life Points. However, if a winner's result is 6, the loser takes 6000 points of Direct Damage. If the results are the same, both players roll again.

Ah, one of the more neglected members of the Jar family (other than Cobra Jar). It's Dice Jar. This card was released too soon to have some real recognition. With Dice Re-roll, LLAB, Tsukuyomi, etc. released in later sets, this card just did not get the attention it deserved.

The card did have some support, however, with Book of Moon, Book of Taiyou, BBtD, and Trap of Board Eraser out in the same set, but it just wasn't enough to give this card what it needed.

Building a deck around this card would not be too difficult to do now. We do have the proper stall and cards to give our dicey friend just what it needs. Dice Jar is best fitted in a deck based on itself. I wouldn't put this in any random deck. Maybe in a deck with Spatial Collapse and Ojama Trio for a lot more zaniness. Just a thought. o_O

BBtD and Trap of Board Eraser cannot be chained to the activation of Dice Jar's effect because the inflict damage amount is not known ahead of time.

Also, if Book of Moon is chained to the activation of Dice Jar's effect, the effect will still resolves even if Dice Jar is face-down.

However, you can use Book of Moon, then Book of Taiyou to reapply Dice Jar's effect, but this combo is such a waste of card for doing combo that can back fire on you 50% of the time.

This is what I was saying about the two cards. I just checked the ruling on Dice Jar in regards to BBtD. I had no idea that those cards couldn't be used against Dice Jar. That kind of shuts down the whole theory to a deck, now doesn't it.

dice jar

i just found out that dice jar cannot be comboed with barrel behind the door. at first, i thought this would be a great combo.

dice jar is a very risky card. i would probably only use it if you are gonna lose the duel, and you have nothing else to loose.

The only card that really works with it is Dice Re-Roll, and that has to be activated before it gets flipped in battle, or at least chained to the manual flip of the card. Now if there was a continuous magic type of Dice Re-Roll, it could be better even, but even so, if you do re-roll, so does your opponent, so it's still all up to random luck, hehe.

The only way to possibly protect yourself from its damage is to activate Pikeru's Circle of Enchantment beforehand as well, as a precaution that you might take damage, so it could still end up getting wasted.

Funny enough though, I do believe if you have "Umi" and Tornado Wall down, you wouldn't take damage from it either, but would a water deck really run this card? It's tempting to try, but still very situational.

I don't like this card, because there is just as much chance of you burning yourself as your opponent.

Sure, all Jars have the potential to help more than hinder your opponent, but at least the risk is calculated. Here it's too high.

Artwork comments:

The dice on the right (our right) is non-standard. The Pips on the six are ligned up the wrong way (They should run from 3 to 4 (not 5 to2)). Also one pair of number is reversed, when showing the numbers 3,5,6 ithey should run clockwise.

For some reason the face of Dice Jar reminds me of the Trains from "Shining Time Station." (Now aired as "Thomas & Friends")
