Caught a repeat of Maximum Exposures last night. Low and behold, I found the episode on YouTube. It's called "Awesome Explosions", and quite frankly, they are. I don't know if you can quite grasp the scale of that one in Tiawan over your computer screen, but beleive me, on TV, I got it. :shudder

Oh my garshq! This is too funny.

White and Nerdy

Oh man, that was funny! So here's a few more Wierd Al vids that are just hilarious.

Apparently, Verizon employees are chosen on the basis of poor math skills. This is actually only audio only, but it's quite astounding. And very disturbing.

Verizon Still Can't Count

LOL! This is the same issue the state of AZ (I am a native :redface ) had with a new cigarette tax that just passed. When they pushed through the wording on the legislation, someone put the cent mark after the decimal instead of the dollar sign in front. It was noticed before the election, but too late to change the wording on the ballots. The response was that, 'Well it is understood that it is 80cents and not .8 of a cent.' The resulting lawsuit for trying to enforce the 80cent rate is still pending from what I understand.

I just played this for my wife. She can't believe it either. The problem I see is that people, who clearly understand the math, are trying to explain the math to people who clearly have no grasp of it. What needs to be done, provided Verizon isn't just playing dumb to avoid refunding everone they ever 100 fold overcharged, is it needs to be explained more simply. Forget explaining the more detailed math. Explain to them that whatever increments your multiplying, in this case cents, it doesn't magically convert to another increment when you hit enter. You multiply lbs. by a number, and when you hit enter you get your total in lbs. It doesn't change to another unit of weight. You multiply liters by a number, then your total is still representign liters. You multiply cents by a number, and your total is still represented in cents. It doesn't magially convert to dollars, regardless of where the decimal lands. It's not surprising that not everone at Verizon understands this, whats surprising is that not a single one does. I would love to see this on 20/20 or 60 Minutes.

They explained the screw-up in AZ by stating that they don't put the 'cents' symbol on keyboards anymore. That is very true, but it still doesn't affect decimal point positioning. Maybe if they played that game with a few of the decision-maker's paychecks things would get sorted out.:D

There's a bunch of replies to this vid on YouTube by math teachers and such trying to explain it all. But most of it will make your eyes glaze over. It's really very simple, even to the math deficient like myself, to understand. But I'm suspecting some people are playing dumb to avoid paying for the mistake. After all, if they've been charging people this much for this long, then they'd have to refund everyone practically 99% of their fees! They'd go bankrupt. Or get taken over by that guy in the mall with blond hair.

Is this the proper forum to ask if you have certain video clips available (i.e. like the deposition that got violent...)? Or do you take any requests at all for postings?

Requests? Hrm. Never really came up before. I try to post just one a week, but I'll look into it. Is there a specific clip your looking for?

Real Tekken

Come on. Tell me this isn't friggin' cool. :D

NOTE: There's a mature content warning on the video. Other then some fighting there's nothing inappropriate in the video. Some nimrod on YouTube just decided to flag it for no reason.

This is just a looping video, but it demonstrates a new technology. Video embedded into a sheet of plastic. "XYZ RGB can turn an eight-second video into a full-colour hologram and place it in a plastic film that can be posted in malls, pasted to billboards or even wrapped around a can of soup."

This is nothing like the old motion lenticular posters and prints. This is full motion video more akin to the looping images on the newspapers in Harry Potter. Though the motion principle is still the same, the quality is beyond that by leaps and bounds.

The three-D thing isn't that hard. Your eye is seeing two slightly different images, which is what 3D is.

The hard part is getting all of those images into a single piece of plastic without ruining the view. Microtechnology much?

I'm not sure if this is as much 3D technology as it is motion image technology. In other words, their looking at this more as a video application as opposed to holography.

Yeah, I was a little skeptical at first. But the John Williams/James Horner sound track is well chosen, it just makes the story. It should feel sillier then it actually feels, but I found myself a little worried for the elves when Maul showed up. LOL
