Easy way of remembering if cards can be activated in the Damage Step?

If I'm correct on this, no non-counter trap card can be activated in the Damage Step unless the card description says you can, right?

Traps and Quick-plays which affect ATK/DEF directly can be activated in the Damage Step as well (Castle Walls, Reinforcements, Rush Recklessly, The Reliable Guardian etc.)

that is true. I have had this problem also. Me and a friend has an argument about what could and couldn't be activated during the damage step.
 
Magic/Trap effects that have a DIRECT effect on atk/def. So no Reverse Trap.

Also add to the list all otherwise eligible counter-traps (eligible meaning that their timing is correct) and effect monsters that negate magic cards.

Also add cards that respond to taking damage, such as Numinous Healer.

Also add in Null and Void, just because.
